Low folate symptoms
« on: August 07, 2025, 03:57:22 PM »

Has anyone dealt woth low folate levels during perimenopause? My recent blood test showed my levels were 2.2 ug/l. I wonder if this could be contributing to my low moods and anxiety. I am on hrt and antidepressants but still very emotional and have crippling anxiety/ panic

Low folate can cause depression and anxiety as well as breathlessness and fatigue. Have you been given a supplement by your GP?

Yes, I've been given a prescription today after asking for a blood test for months!
They kept increasing my antideoressant instead which hasn't helped at all.

It’s a form of anaemia so yes it will make you feel terrible.

I’m in the same boat just now. Shoot for a level around 15 - 20 ug/l not just ‘in range’.

Low folate made me feel really anxious and depressed but three months of the prescribed supplement sorted it out. Low vitamin D also made me feel similar.

I have coeliac disease and had chronically low folate, ferritin, vit d pre diagnosis. I was pretty miserable.

You cannot underestimate how much of an impact these things have.
