Merina Coil
« on: June 07, 2025, 04:22:54 PM »

I had a hystoscopy yesterday but it wasn’t successful so if got to have another one using water to inflate the area.  The consultant also mentioned having a mirena coil.  Has anyone got experiences of either? X

I haven't had a hysteroscopy but I do have a mirena. It's great for me, no bleeds and no side effects unlike the other progestogens I've tried. It's like every other hrt though, most are absolutely fine but a few will have trouble with it. If you're going to have one it would make sense to do it at the same time.

That's very negligent ........... this procedure should always be done under pain relief!

Hi

I had a hysteroscopy a couple of years of years ago following post menopausal bleeding, my endometrium was slightly thickened so I had a biopsy to make sure all OK. The gynae suggested a Mirena Coil, initially I wasn't keen as I'd had a bad experience with a coil back in the 80s but she and the nurse I dealt with both assured me the Mirena is different. So I went for it, the coil was fitted during the same procedure as the biopsy and I've no regrets at all.  I had about 12 weeks of spotting but very light and sporadic, other than that no negative effects.

I'd make the same decision again and, if I can, I'll have this one replaced when it's end of life.
