Anyone else have this? I am 60 - on HRT 2 years and had a hysteroscopy by GA 10 days ago due to heavy bleeding. Doc said I wasn’t on sufficient progesterone so fitted the Mirena coil. Had a cyst on ovaries and polyps - think removed but don’t know 🤦‍♀️ Still waiting on biopsy results . Was fine after op and slight spotting. Now have full on period type bleeding and small clots. Is this normal? Does it mean Mirena not working? Any advice welcome

It mayB that the aggravation in that area has triggered a bleed.  Hopefully some1 will be along with more advice.  Get those feet up, good book, cuppa 2 hand ;-)

Yes, the Mirena can take time to settle and bleeding can happen. Aldo bleeding can happen after a hysteroscopy.

He’s, the Mirena can take time to settle and bleeding can happen. Aldo bleeding can happen after a hysteroscopy.

Thank you. It’s started really 7 days after the op.. was light and stopped few days afterwards

I had Mirena fitted plus a biopsy in October due to post menopausal bleeding. I had period like bleeding for 5 weeks after. I was told it’s possible to have period like bleeding for up to 3 months or more while the Mirena settles. I’ve since had to have a replacement Mirena fitted in January due to the previous one having the threads cut too short, plus a hysteroscopy and a further biopsy as there apparently wasn’t enough viable tissue in the previous sample. Following that I bled for week then had light spotting around 4 weeks later, but nothing since.

Glad it’s settled for you and reassuring not just me. Are you using alongside estrogen? I have read that you shouldn’t stop the ugesterone for 7 days after the mirena  fitting so wonder if that is the reason for the heavy bleeding. I also wonder if in correctly as have tummy pains and can’t feel string (but never could with previous coils I had many years ago)

I am using 2 pumps of oestrogel each day, I was using the utrogestan daily up until the night before the first Mirena was fitted, as soon as that was fitted the consultant told me as of then I didn’t need to take the utrogestan again.

Did you bleed when switching? Consultant has said I could now bleed for 6 months and to take Utrogestan as well if I like.

I bled for 5 weeks with first Mirena fitted, I was also told it could take 3-6 months of bleeding or spotting on and off until it settled. I was never told to take a utrogestan as well. Between the initial Mirena being fitted in October and then having to have a replacement one fitted in January I’ve now had the Mirena a total of 5 months and so far things seem to have settled now.
