Itchy skin
« on: January 07, 2025, 07:28:39 AM »

Has anybody had this or similar? Every so often and is doesn’t follow a pattern, sometimes it’s four weeks sometime six. I get itchy legs. They do itchy slightly during the days but it really starts at night, as soon as I put my feet in bed. Starts with itchy legs but by the third night it’s just my ankles. Sometimes I get hives there but not all the time. It’s drives me mad and I can’t sleep. By the morning it’s gone again!!! I put ice on it which does help when it’s just my ankles, but when it’s all my legs it’s impossible to cover with ice. I am on gel two pumps plus progesterone. I was on patches before and it seems that for the first year on any meds I’m ok but after that the itching comes back. Been to the doctor several times, told to put some gel on at nights as well  as the morning, it didn’t work. Take antihistamines that didn’t work! Now have steroid cream which doesn’t help either. Moisturise constantly no difference. It goes as fast as it comes and I will be fine until the next time it happens. Thinking of coming off everything to see what my norm now is. Anyone had similar it’s driving me insane and can’t seem to find the cause or cure!!

It must be the time of year, some1 yesterday mentioned similar symptoms.

As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out; deep in the ears, eyes, nostrils, skin, vagina .......... 4 me it was my insteps, as soon as I removed socks B4 stepping into my evening bath; and I would wake with one heel scratching the other instep.  Fortunately it didn't last many months after my last period.

Have U tried an over the counter anti-histamine?  Is it cyclical?

Honestly this has been one of my worst symptoms. I now take 180mg Fexofenadine daily to help. Also stay moisturised with a light lotion as thick cream makes my sweating worse.

I find that vaseline in the yellow bottle for the body [not the face for some reason  ::) ] helps a lot.

Thanks for your messages, I feel relieved to know I am not the only one.  Seem to be every month or so although I missed last month.  Mostly at night and I have tried antihistamine with no effect.  Been fine all day today and now as it comes to evening I am starting to itch again.  Just been to the chemist for antihistamine that makes you sleepy, just to see if I can sleep though it!!!  and a big bottle of Vaseline :)

Yes mine comes on and off all month. Worst on back of hands and near my eyes. I also find that when it's itchy I become allergic to regular hand creams as well as water based vaginal moisturiser (which stings)! Rest of the time it's totally fine.

I keep meaning to track whether there's any correlation with my cyclical utrogestan.

Yes, mine is back with a vengeance, legs, stomach, all skin.
I'm sure it's related to the constant central heating.
In past winters, having a humidifier in the bedroom has really helped all the dry skin stuff, dry eyes, dry nasal lining etc
