Hello ladies , went for a hearing test and have one ear worse than the other. Tinnitus and get occasional vertigo. So have been referred to ent so panicking now as have terrible health anxiety.
Anyone else have these problems am 63 so post menopause but still have hot flushes palpitations ect  appreciate any answers thankyou xx

Evening.  Why did U go for a hearing test and where did U have this done?  What was the discussion at the appt.?  ENT is the usual next step to give advice on the tinnitus, vertigo etc.  After a heavy cold I often suffered with vertigo, I know in the morning as I open my eyes and daren't move!  Not even for a P! 

How bad does the tinnitus affect you?  Mine is almost constant, slightly behind my head - noisier some times than others.  I often wonder how long it's been there B4 I notice it!

As we age the eustachian [sp] tubes may narrow, quite normal.  The ENT if he/she knows about menopause, can tell you more. 

There are a couple of anti-depressant medications that can ease hot flushes .  Have U been offered these?

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress.  Let us know how you get on and try not to worry.

Hi CLKD, thankyou for replying . Went to spec savers for hearing test . Something I’ve been meaning to do as when
 a lot of back ground noise can’t always hear what’s said . Had tinnitus for last 20 years and something I’ve just lived with most of the time constant. Louder when stressed . Spec savers said it’s something they have to do if hearing  loss is different  in one ear to the other ? . Thank you once again xx

Hi cazz63,

My M-I-L went for a hearing test recently and she needed hearing aids for the first time. As a result of the test they have also referred her for an MRI. I was a bit alarmed at that but apparently it is normal procedure if there is a hearing problem, just to check everything out. I think they are being very thorough (although it isn't what those of us with health anxiety would choose).

Thanks Dotty 068 for replying . I’ve got my appointment through today for ent , anxiety through the roof as worried as to what it can be and googling doesn’t help , I don’t know why I do it. I worried  about being deaf in one ear more than the other . And with tinnitus/ occasional Virtigo .  Any help would be appreciated thank you xxx

I would be exactly the same. I find that the unknown is the worst bit and that's what sets my health anxiety off.

In these situations I "try" and apply a logical approach which is, the sooner I have the appointment, the sooner I can find out what the problem is (if there is one) and the sooner I can get some treatment.

My logic kicks in and I think the sooner it gets sorted the better. And then the not so logic kicks in as well .

They are just doing routine testing so don't panic. Both me and my husband have uneven hearing loss and both had scans done just to be on the safe side. It is actually quite common but the staff in hospital is very reassuring that most of these scans show nothing. So try not to worry, think of it as of blood test (I know easier said then done!).
