Longer cycle on progesterone
« on: November 14, 2024, 10:39:28 AM »

Hey! I’m taking progesterone tablets on a monthly cycle, so I take the tablets for 12 days a month which I’ve chosen to take internally as they make me feel sick, tired & just awful! They’ve been ok till now but I’m now feeling flat in my mood, anxious, tired & emotional every time I start the 12 days of progesterone. I saw someone mention in a thread about doing a 6 week cycle to get more ‘better’ days out of it. Does anyone know if they mean still taking 12 tablets in a 6 week cycle or then taking more? I thought I might be low in progesterone as I half the dose due to taking internally but seems not.
Long post, sorry! Just curious what others are doing to tailor to their own needs etc.  Thank you

If you are doing a long cycle I would recommend at least 14 days progesterone.

However this is less than the minimum amount advised by treatment guidelines in order to assure endometrial protection, and should only be done with your prescriber's knowledge, ideally with regular scans to monitor your endometrial lining.

If you just decide to take less progesterone than you are prescribed by yourself without discussing with a medical professional, this runs the risk of endometrial hyperplasia and potentially endometrial cancer.

There are also multiple alternative progestogens so don't feel like micronised progesterone is your only option if it is making you unwell.
