Bleeding cervix... Worried now
« on: November 11, 2024, 11:12:59 AM »

Hi all,

I had my cervical smear today, and the nurse voiced concern that my cervix bled too easily, and has told me to make an appointment with the doctor.

She also took a swab, as she noted some discharge ( I have been a bit itchy, so assumed it was thrush).

I'm feeling a bit panicky now, has anyone else had a similar experience  ?

I am on her, and have had a couple of bleeds, but I had a pelvic scan in April, so was not unduly worried... Til now.

Thanks in advance

Hi there

Try not to worry - I always bleed when I have my cervical smear and it has never been a concern - I always get my doctor to do my smears though - may be just a nurse being over cautious - I am sure the doctor will re-assure you and put your mind at ease

A bit of bleeding after a smear is not uncommon and doesn't necessarily indicate anything wrong.

A common cause is an ectropion, which is a bit of more delicate and friable tissue on the surface. This is frequently seen in young healthy women, those on birth control and HRT.

Absolutely get it checked by your GP, but this wouldn't worry me in the slightest.

Hi, thank you both for the replies, it's really helping. I think the thing she said was that there was "too much' bleeding , like it was excessive.

When I was younger (about 15 years ago) I was treated for cervical ectopy, I had some cells frozen. Maybe it's possible for them to come back?

Again, thank you so much, I do feel a bit calmer now.

Hi all

Well, I'm still bleeding, so I'm getting really worried now. I've got a go appointment with the GP on ,28/11, but that seems so far away.

I'm getting some slight cramping too.

Swab came back.as thrush, so I've got a prescription for that.

Posting on here helps, sorry to keep on

Have you had your smear test results back yet?
Ovarian is really unlikely to present with bleeding cervix as the main symptom. If anything you may have thin dry skin there which got aggravated or possibly cells that need zapping on cervix, but I know your mind is primed to go to worst case scenario. Honestly that is not one of the key symptoms to watch out for with ovarian please try to not catastrophise x
