Peri and blood test
« on: October 29, 2024, 06:55:54 AM »

Hi, just after advice. I had blood tests done for other reasons but my FSH & LH were included in the test (Serum FSH level:
13.8 iu/L
Serum LH level:
12.9 iu/L) the lab comment was not consistent with perimenopause. I know we don't have to be tested over 45, which I am, but I was just curious as I do have peri symptoms and have only been on oestrogel and utrogestan for 2 weeks but can already feel a huge positive difference. I have regular periods but with the results, I'm wondering if I need hrt? Although I do feel better 2 weeks in! Thanks 😊

Hi
Did you have the test after starting HRT? If so, it messes with your FSH values and make them particularly irrelevant. As you say, it’s symptom led after a certain age so don’t let anyone mess with your regimen if it’s helping.

Glad you’re feeling better.

If hormone therapy is benefiting you clinically, that's what matters.

It is always best to treat the individual not the lab values.

Your FSH is just a snapshot in time on that day. It can vary with your cycle and may also be affected by the hormone therapy if you had already started that.

It is not particularly valuable in your situation, however if you are over 45 it's nice that it's still reasonably low for age.
