HRT can protect bones and heart too as hormones drop off.

Let us know how you get on.

I'm post meno but I recently had thrush, I think that's what it is.
While I have no vaginal problems, my labia was itchy.
I tried clotrimazole cream 1% but it didn't seem to shift until I started on probiotics.
I didn't go on these for thrush, I went on them to stop my bristol stool type 6 poos each morning, as they are smelly and messy, the probiotics have not firmed up my stools.
I take evorel and utro.

Hi SGNW,

You’re definitely not too young to be in perimenopause at 38, I was the same age! I’m now 42 (have been using HRT since I was 40) and I had thrush for the first time last November (confirmed by swab) and went on to have recurrent (confirmed) episodes for 10 months. I was prescribed a six month course of Fluconazole in May and had three more confirmed episodes of thrush while on the treatment. I had to add in a monthly Clotrimazole pessary and also started on probiotics with vaginal strains. I finally had a negative swab last month (GP surgery) and a second negative swab a few weeks ago (Gynae). I take my final Fluconazole tablet tomorrow and am nervous about what’s going to happen once they’re out of my system.

I’m a bit of an outlier (sorry!) as I was told to stop using vaginal oestrogen. I was initially using the pessaries before my first episode of thrush. My GP didn’t want me to use them while dealing with thrush, but after a few months agreed to prescribe estriol cream to be applied externally only. I saw a Gynae who specialises in vulvar issues last month and was told to stop using the cream as well! I was originally prescribed oestrogen pessaries for bladder issues rather than dryness so I’m just keeping a close eye on myself for any recurrence of symptoms, thrush or otherwise.

I hope you get the right support from your GP and relief soon.

Hi,

Your symptoms sound very similar to mine and I’m 37. I get so itchy in my groin and vulva and I’ve spent months thinking it was thrush/jock itch or similar. The skin down there is literally so thin now due to the constant scratching, and I sometimes wake up with scratch marks on the inside of my thighs so must do it in my sleep. It’s awful ain’t it :(

I tried canesten, daktarin, hydrocortisone and even sudocrem but nothing shifted it. Among other symptoms I also listed in another post I’ve come to the conclusion it’s perimenopause which is why I’ve asked for a HRT appointment with my doctors for next month.

Let us know how you get on on 31st and good luck x

It may be mentioned elsewhere in the replies, but low oestrogen can actually lead to thrush because the drop in levels in the vagina messes with the balance of good bacteria there. It’s annoying AF because you treat the thrush and get told it’s not hormone related and the thrush comes back and the cycle continues.

I use ovestin cream daily and Vagifem twice weekly and it’s worked well for me. If I get any odd discharge or unusual itching I pop an oral fluconazole. That only happens about twice a year though and I never confirm its thrush. I just like to cover my bases!
