I'm trying to understand a bit more about the menopause and where I am with it. I have 2 questions.
1. Are there any good statistics on the % of women who get bad (can't function in job or need less demanding job) menopause?
I ask this because I meet a fair few women who haven't had such a bad experience.
2. By what % do energy levels drop from before menopause? I'm 55 in 2 months and it's almost 8 years since perimenopause started. I feel my levels have dropped by 20%, most of that in the last 3 years. I want to go back to work, but am concerned if I'll have the stamina. I the past 2 weeks, I've started my job search for accounting roles as that's where my skills are and I'm okay with it as long as I'm working with decent people and in a role that calls to my strengths in accounting. I'm after a job now not a career.
I joined a volunteer job search community called Never Search Alone (I highly recommend as job searching is never easy) as a moderator at the beginning of August. And, I signed up to another career group called Brave Starts for late career people.
I meet and read about women who do career changes /set up businesses in their 50s. I assume their energy levels were higher than mine to start with so a 20% isn't such a big deal starting from a higher base.
My symptoms before going on HRT were fatigue, mood swings, anxiety and anger. Things have settled now after switching 2 years ago from Fem2/10 (stopped working after 5 years) to Oestrogel (2 to 3 pumps) & Utrogestan ( insertion rather than take tablet). I also starting take 15mg mitzrapine Nov 22 - that was to solve sleep problem I had for 3 months. I'm now dependent on mitzrapine for sleep.
For the past few years, I've worked less and finished an easy (part-time) but very unrewarding accounting role last October. For a few months last year whilst doing the job, I also explored moving into Customer Success (as I really wanted to get out of accounting) but didn't pursue it as I felt I didn't have the energy, umph and also my personality might not be suited to it.
Since then I've helped my husband with his business, practised using and keeping up to date with GEN AI, took driving lessons and passed my test 1st time which I'm proud of! I now want to go back to work as I miss all the positives (meeting & 2 mixing with people, using my skills, feeling useful, earning money and having more cash buffer). I'm never bored or seem to have lots of spare time, but I don't feel fulfilled and feelmy brain is slower.
Comments/ advice would be helpful.
