Cycle regime for 8 years, is it safe ?
« on: May 23, 2024, 06:40:08 PM »

So today I had my HRT review and the Dr informed me I am only supposed to be on a cycle regime for max of 5yrs when post menopausal? I am 62 and almost 10yrs post menopause, I have been on my current regime of utrogestan for 12 days along with evorel 50 patch for 8 and half year's. I never knew anything about 5yrs max? Dr said I can stay on it as long as I am aware of the risks and take note of any changes in bleeding. Any info or advice welcome, thank you

I'm staying on sequi too because of side effects from utro. They told me there's a slightly higher risk of endometrial cancer this way but I'll take that over being permanently doped.

If you’re happy as you are then stay on it. There are slight risks but quality of life is important.

I saw a gynae this week and asked him this question he was unaware of any issues with staying on cyclical he said he just couldnt understand why women would want to get periods still in their 60s but if I was happy with it then he has no issues. I dont tolerate progesterone daily at all.

Thank you so much this is very reassuring!

Ive been on cyclical HRT for 16 or 17 yearsand I'm 71 and still bleed (hateful though it is) Fine as long as you are sensible re endometrium and report unscheduled bleeding.

And  as sheila 99 "there's a slightly higher risk of endometrial cancer this way but I'll take that over being permanently doped. "

Remember this is relative risk - and provided you are sensible the absolute risk is low.

Just to mention that my Gynae also discussed those ladies who are Progesterone intolerant and said that there is an option to use Oestrogen unapposed so no Progesterone but this needs to be monitored with regular scans to check on the endometrial lining, which I would imagine would be a costly process but possible for those ladies who cannot tolerate the Prog.

Hey nice to see you are still active on here Hurdity, you gave me a lot of sound advice when I first began this regime in 2016!! I have stuck to it all this time and although I'd rather not have a bleed I wouldn't want to start trying other regimes and products now  :-\ it works for me  :)
And reassuring to hear you are still on this regime in your 70s . Hope you are well 😊
