Hi,

I have been prescribed the conti patch for 9 months but I am peri. I was still getting a period whilst on the conti patch. I realised i was on the wrong patch after chatting to a friend and a bit of online research. I messaged the GP who confirmed on Friday, 8 Nov, this was an error and said a new prescription had been sent for a new type of patch which i have yet to collect.

I haven't taken any patch for 2 weeks now. Also, i started to suffer from high blood pressure about a month ago. All my life, i have had low blood pressure. I am due to have a 24h monitor check tomorrow but read about estrogen dominance so think this could be linked to the conti patch. I intend to visit my gp after getting  the bp results to discuss these.

Could you help me with any advice on what else i should be asking the GP. I am not taking anything at the moment. I have constant headache, mood swings, fatigue and flashes again.

Hi there is no danger with using a Conti patch in peri. The downside is that you will get breakthrough bleeding. You will have been getting the same amount of progesterone but it will have been spread over the whole month.

Thanks for your advice, Dotty. I read that it can be linked to estrogen dominance which might explain the high BP.

I don’t know much about oestrogen dominance . The oestrogen is the same in the Conti or Sequi patches. Your blood pressure could be due to many other things. Ask your GP to check it. Good luck.
