Hi,
Just wanted to ask if anyone had experience of having a hysteroscopy I am due to have one next week for a suspected polyp.I have booked for a general anaesthetic but maybe thinking I am being dramatic and should just have a local so just wanted to hear any of your experiences

Yeah, I've had a couple, both local anathestic, and both having a polyp removed.

There is more risk of damage (to bladder I think it is, maybe other damage too) by having a general anathestic.

It does hurt, on and off, but bearable and over quite quickly. The setting up of equipment takes longer.

You do get like period pain and contractions after the procedure but doesn't last long.

Take pain killers before the procedure, they advise this.

As I say, yes, it does hurt on and off, but I would get it done again if needed, and would choose local again.  Don't let this put you off, it is bearable and I got through it and the ladies are lovely who look after you.
