Worth paying for private shingles jab?
« on: May 30, 2023, 03:25:05 PM »

I heard recently that Superdrug offered a private shingles jab. As I have had chickenpox twice and the NHS option isn't available until I am 70, I am wondering whether it is worth paying private. I have just asked in my local Superdrug but they couldn't give me the price. I have to go to a much larger store further away.
Has anyone done this? How much did it cost ?

NOPE!  1 cannot have a shingles jab until the age of 70.  It is off licence and no reputable company will provide it, privately or otherwise.

I tried to swing it a couple of weeks ago, I get to 70 at the end of this year.  I even offered to bale out the Nurse if she was sent to jail, she wasn't moving  ;D

You can pay for it from 50 years of age I think. It's around £400

How do Boots etc. get permission from NICE ?  Makes a mockery of the whole NICE ethic ?

£400.00 ......... how much of that is the jab itself and the payment for the person to administer?  What did U decide?

Tnx.  I've sent an e-mail to my surgery asking why DH could have his NHS Shingles jab as he is 70, whereas me, who will be 70 in Dec., has to wait ........ where BOOTs can charge for 2 jabs ......... if I remember and if I get a reply, I'll let you know.  If not, give me a  :kick:  :D

The NHS don't usually give the Shindrix vaccine. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/shingles-vaccination/

Isn't this because you are not 70 yet?  ;D

Probably - but as I pointed out to the GP e-mail 'service' - which isn't covered every day apparently; how can BOOTS give jabs so any1 over 50  :-\
