Acne scars - any product recommendations?
« on: January 08, 2023, 08:04:02 PM »

Ladies, this is for my 14 year old son.

Finally took him to the gp 2 months, ago as his acne was really bad. He was immediately put on long course antibiotics (much to my horror) but they're doing the job. Spots have practically gone.

But the scarring is really bad. He's young, so hopefully it'll clear.

In the meantime, anyone got any recommendations to help repair his skin???

Hi Crispy

I had a bad acne issue with acne when I was 21.
Had three months antibodies (yuck) which worked and fortunately didn’t get scarring.
Of course it was a hormonal issue, but no one realised that then and I don’t think that’s changed much.

The only thing that comes to mind is a product called Bio-oil.  My hubby and I have used it on a couple of occasions to deal with scar tissue following surgery. In fact I was recommended it by a neurosurgeon.
It worked a treat.

Whether it will work for acne scars, I don’t know, but might be worth researching.

U could also look at specific companies who teach burns victims on how to care for their skin and which products to use.  Or a stage company who deal with make up who may have advice.  It's about thinking outside the box.  I know that one of the famous hairdressers makes real hair wigs for people who have undergone chemotherapy: ??? Philip Sorbet ??? so there are specifics out there who will help.

Also there's a girl who had acid poured over her face - she may have released her own product line ......... when I think of her name I'll be back  ::)

Katie Piper - : from Hello magazine:

Katie’s skincare routine
“I’m strict with my skincare, consistency is important, and I never sleep in makeup. You need a proper routine that you can commit to. I use the QMS Deep Gentle Cleanser, £38, in the morning and night, and sometimes I use the Caudalie Vinoclean Instant Foaming Cleanser, £15, in the morning shower.

There is more in the article.  The ABs will get rid of the 'bug' which is causing the acne which is common in teens.  If your lad is worried there is no need to share his cleansing routine with his peer group ......... ;-).  Let us know how he gets on.

Thanks ladies. I'll look into those.

I had thought about bio oil - but was worried it would make him look very slippery and oily  ;D
