Hi!  hair loss can be a problem during peri-menopause.

Have you had an appt with a menopause specialist or GP to talk your HRT requirements over?

Hello and welcome to the forum. 48 is not too young to start HRT. Your DR is wrong. I started HRT at 38. I would say it would be better for you to ask to speak to another DR. I am sorry you are having hair loss. Have you had any blood tests to see if you are lacking in anything?

Change your GP.  No one is 'too young' to begin menopause.  Occasionally girls h ave a few periods then nowt; rarely girls never menstruate.  How early is one supposed to be for menopause to be too early?

NICE guidelines suggest HRT rather than ADs etc.. However, if mental health is a dangerous issue, ADs should be tried for 8-12 months with consideration of appropriate HRT - going on symptoms rather than blood tests.

I suggest that you ask for a referral to a dermatologist with knowledge of hair loss.  Alopecia can happen at any age and for no particular reason.  Is your hair dropping out in clumps, mine seems to be coming out more when I wash it.  No gaps fortunately.  As well as a referral to a dedicated menopause clinic as there are waiting lists.  If by the time an appt arrives you can then decide whether it's appropriate.

Don't give up.  Is there a Nurse Practitioner in your Surgery who may be knowledgable about peri menopause?  These years leading up to the last period can be an upheaval as hormones rise and fall!  Let us know how you get on.

You are not too young, I'm 47 and have just started. Try and see another Dr or a nurse perhaps. I'm also struggling with hair loss and like you have long hair. It's not good, HRT doesn't seem to be helping mine as yet but it's early days xx

Hi, I’m 42 and been having all manner of symptoms for over 2 years. In June this year I noticed that my hair was falling out easily - loads of hair in the bath after I’d shower, I could run my hands through my hair and my hands would be full of hair. I went to the Dr and didn’t get anywhere -  just said I was too young to be in peri and that hair went in cycles. My hairdresser commented that I’d gone thin on the crown of my head but fine everywhere else. I became really distressed about it which I believe made it worse. I tried Alpicin shampoo but tbh I didn’t really notice a difference (maybe slight at best). Thankfully it has now calmed down after a good 4 months. I learnt to start to ignore it and try not to stress about it - maybe that helped maybe not! Hopefully yours will calm down like mine did eventually but try not to worry about it x
