The Queen's passing
« on: September 09, 2022, 03:11:19 PM »

I'm a little shocked that there isn't a thread on this :-\ . Canada is mourning her passing, she was a wonderful head of state and our Prime Minister was very fond of her.  She visited Canada more than any other country during her reign, and she was very special to all of us.
My deepest condolences to the Royal family.

It's been a shock even though we knew it was coming.  All feeling very strange.

The King set his mark today, personally greeting and shaking hands with the crowd outside Buckingham Palace.  Very personal and touching.

Thank you for posting this C.C. I was astounded to see that nobody could be bothered to comment. The woman had a brain and dignity in abundance. A sad comment that nobody on this forum from the UK  decided it was worthy of note.

It wasn't that I couldn't be bothered, simply that I wondered whether a thread would be considered political  :'( (as the 1 that I began about Ukraine)

MayB Heather or Emma could have posted something to get us going ..........  :-\

My memory of my Queen will be of her, looking well and smiling, with Liz Truss on Tuesday.  King Charles greeted his public with affection and smiles earlier, even remembering to acknowledge the crowds at the back .  As he walked away he looked, oh so like his Dad.

History in the making.

I think many were probably too shocked yesterday.

I don't think this is would be considered political CLKD  (I could be wrong), whether one supports the Monarchy or not, it's still a sad occasion for the Commonwealth.

I understand that there is a 10-day mourning period?

Yes, very sad.
I’ve been crying listening to all the sad songs on the radio earlier this morning.
Mourning will continue for seven days after her funeral.
Seems weird that we have a King now. The Queen was all we’d ever known.  :'(

I cried when I heard. Have spent all day watching it on TV. She was very beloved, gone but never forgotten 😞

And yes CLKD Charles is the double of his father

She was the only monarch, I expect most of us, have ever known.
A great lady and her passing is the end of an era.
She has had much sadness in the last few years, which she withstood with her usual fortitude and graciousness.
Very sad day indeed, thank you CC for starting this thread.

Many sports events have been cancelled or postponed: the Archery Community however have had or will be arranging a black arrow shoot - it's done when members in a Club pass as a volley - calling out the person's name.  This will be a volley of all types of archery, the Queen's name will be called and God Save The King will be announced.  Some Clubs have already performed their tributes.

Some Country Fairs are continuing as they take such a lot of expense and arrangements, with the idea of a moment's silence at 11.00 .  Our Church bell tolled yesterday morning.

When Mum was a girl (she's 96) when someone in the village died the bell was tolled: once for a man, twice for a woman, 3 for a child.  Mostly the person was known to have been ill as communities were so tight.

It was common across the land.  96 tolls happened in many churches yesterday.

There have been some official goings on here as well. The Prime Minister and the Governor General (the federal viceregal representative of the Canadian monarch) signed the proclamation to recognize King Charles as the head of state and Canadian flags are flying half-mast all over the country.
