I have never worked in a classroom but I have seen this happen Taz2.

A lady I knew when my children were at school, and I keep in touch with her to this day, had bad problems with her eldest son who for a number of years  clearly needed a statement of special needs but the school was reluctant to get involved.  Instead they just kept telephoning her to come and take him home because he was disrupting the class.  She fought and fought for her child and it made her ill.  It was nearly three years before he got the intervention he needed and missed out on any sort of schooling during that time.  It was appalling.

My daughter is a primary school teacher and has seen children falling through the net because they were struggling but not obviously so.

You don't have to work in a school to be aware of things.

Maybe it depends on the area then? It is of benefit to the school to have a diagnosis and a statement given. It is usually the local authority who blocks such requests not the school itself in my experience. I just found the comment upsetting as it seemed unfair to blame the school because with a statement then measures can be put in place and this helps the teachers. It is also helpful in SAT tests because it doesn't impact on the school's overall results if a child who is struggling has a statement.

Back to the TV thread...

Anyone been watching the Bear Grills programs?.
One has celebrities in it, the other one is about a group of woman & a group of men stranded on an island.
I'm loving both of them.

Dan Snow begins a new series this evening.  There's also a Panorama programme about huge 'fraud' which is going to affect many across the World apparently.

I've recorded it - it looks a good cast and plot.

Yes, we gave it a go.  Looks like one of those intelligent series you need to concentrate on or you miss something crucial, unlike The A Word which I am getting more and more frustrated with.  Perhaps that means the cast are doing a good job though  ::)

I saw the 1st 'A Word' but was oh, so bored >yawn< and as there is plenty else on, haven't gone back to it.

The 'anti ageing' programme 2-morrow looks like being fun: it's that Xand again  :-*
