Symptoms getting worse not better
« on: June 26, 2022, 01:23:06 PM »

Hi has anybody experienced this. I started HRT Easter of 2021 so it’s been over a year apart from the brain fog going my symptoms seem to be getting worse but better even with increase in estrogen. I’m still suffering hot flushes and the night sweats have got worse. Head aches have increased and I’ve even suffered a couple of migraines with vision issues. I’m so tired it’s unbelievable. I struggle now to make it through the day now and just feel so worn out I’m going to pick what I actually do in the day now. I’m aching even more now than before starting hrt as well.

How soon did the symptoms become worse after beginning the regime?

Could you go to a dedicated menopause clinic?  I would have stopped to see how symptoms were without HRT.

Have U had recent blood tests especially for VitD levels and Thyroid function tests?

What regime have you been using and how old are U?

I am 41. I am on oestrogel 3 pumps and then Utrogestan 100 x2 for 14 days.
They have just gradually got worse but the last few months they seem to of just worsened quickly. The doctors have put me on Ferrous fumarate 210mg twice a day as my iron levels were at the bottom of the ideal level.
I am also on antidepressants which is what they put me on before starting hrt.
Apparently we don’t have any specialists in my area.

If your iron levels are low you will be tired.

Has your GP been informed about the migraines?

My iron levels were in the normal range just at the lower end. I have been on iron for a few months now.

Yes my doctor is aware of the new migraines. He has just upped my pumps from 2 to 3 to see if it will help with my symptoms and this was on the same call as I told him about the migraines.

Its all so confusing.

Hi mchaplin,

Welcome to the forum.
Are you symptoms the same throughout the month or are they worse when you are taking the Utrogestan?

Do you feel better when you’re just on the oestrogel? X

Thank you for the welcome.

The symptoms are pretty much the same the whole month throughout although when taking the progesterone my sleep improves amazingly and the night sweats also are not as bad as when not taking it. The night sweats and hot flushes seem to have no real pattern to them. This general head ache appears to just be all the time and the margarine with vision issues has happened when on the progesterone as well.

It could be that you are intolerant to the Utrogestan, many ladies are and the withdrawal from it then continues to give symptoms too.
There is a thread on here called I believe  Utrogestan support, so have a look at that.

Is there another GP at the surgery who has more knowledge of the menopause?

You might do better on patches which have a different progesterone. X

I was on patches but they did not stick. I still used the tablets for the 2 weeks.

There is a product you can buy to get them to stick.

I think you should try a sequential patch so your not using the Utrogestan, that’s the only way you’ll know if that’s what’s causing you problems.

Why don’t you start a new thread - Help with patch choice.
You can then ask about the product I mentioned above. X

Yes, it is I’m sorry to say. I understand completely how difficult it is to fight your own corner for your own health, it can feel overwhelming.
Just ponder for now and ask yourself is this truly working? If the answer is no, you will find the courage to investigate a different path before long. xx
