I particularly like the baked bean reference - rather than a "pea size"  .
But the comment  "The letter will detail the dose and frequency to be prescribed. The duration of treatment will be for as long as an improvement in symptoms is achieved or until the patient is post-menopausal and HRT is stopped. " made my eye's role . 

For one my specialist did not write any dosage ( lucky I already know) and secondly - why oh why do they assume that "T" should be stopped post menopausal and why should HRT be stopped if there is no need to do so? - And this is recent guide!

They will have to prize my HRT out of my cold dead hand then.

I can think of no reason, other than they’re all bonkers!!

Other words come to mind, such as corrupt, disinterested, cost efficient, the list is endless! Oh and of course mostly Men. x

There is this belief around that HRT is a kind of vanity thing. Like 'stay young and beautiful' and all that.

If men lost all their testosterone suddenly at age 45, I don't think we'd be seeing it like that.

Hi Ladies,

there are some good points in the prescribing guide, but the idea that it is a temporary thing - the menopause infuriates me. We were not designed to live much beyond menopause biologically - life expectancy has increased significantly, in the 1940's we did not get much older than mid 60's and  men died earlier. We survived a bit longer as estrogen has protective effects . But once estrogen  goes we are on a level playing field with men for heart attacks etc.

The lack of common sense is astounding,

Agree pepperminty.
I keep saying this to my partner; biologically women are simply not designed to live without hormones. They are at the  essence of our physical, emotional and psychological well-being.

Gps and medics should know this and stop making access to medication to simply allow us to function, so damm hard.

There should be:

No time limit on hormones

No lowest dose for the shortest time possible

No “ you’ve had breast cancer/ stroke/ you’re too young, therefore we are going to make you jump through millions of hoops to access hormones which are natural”

No 1/2 year waiting lists to see a ‘ specialist ‘

And certainly no spending a small bloody fortune because many women simply can’t waif the stupid 1/2 years to see a ‘ specialist’

None of this rubbish is temporary, as you say pepperminty and it’s high time that this was highlighted more clearly in documents etc.

( I’m a bit uppity today, as my patch has stopped working and I’ve got to work out how I’m going to get a higher dose of Oestrogen with a stupid breast cancer history)

They could start by training all gps and licensing testosterone for use by women. If they did that probably 95% of those in the queue wouldn't need to see a specialist. I am in it only because my gp doesn't want want to prescribe T herself and wants them to do it. Same as the the 4 visits there.
And definitely time to stop implying oestrogen deficiency magically goes away when you're meno.

We can only hope that the new zsar will move things forward- lets hope she is in Peri and on here- as this may spur her along  !
