Boob weirdness
« on: December 17, 2021, 02:18:17 AM »

Ok so i am suffering from anxiety and flashes etc and at my last doctor appointment he recommended I go for an ultrasound and a mammagram. I felt ultrasounds every few years as I have a number of fluid filled cysts then like to keep an eye on so I assumed it would be a breeze - last US was 3 years ago. Anyway this was my first mammagram and afterward they did an ultrasound but the tech had issues with my right breast. She said “i can feel something there, maybe dense tissue, but i cant find it” and she struggled to get an image cos it was moving around. Eventually she managed i think though.

Anyway next day, yesterday, I get a call back for another mammagram and another ultrasound on that breast. and I start to worry. Appointment isnt till Jan 3. Then today I get a call from my doctor’s office to see him Jan 4, and says its not urgent, and it sounds like they didnt even know i had a second mammagram and ultrasound booked.

So what’s going on?  It sounds like they found something on the first test that was enough for the doctor to know he would want to see me non urgently, but at the same time the radiologist wants another look?  How could the doctor know its not urgent  given the second tests havent been done yet?  Something the first report said made him think it wasnt urgent even though the radiologist wanted more tests?? O maybe he has a weird idea of what isnt urgent…

So confused and worried. And there goes my relaxing Christmas. Any idea?

Hi gm_thomson

I myself have fluid filled cyst in both my breast, for me they call them mice. I believe I have four or more. And like yourself they keep an eye on them. Because my breast are dense, I have a ultrasound every year and mammogram  every second.

I go to a private X-ray place, as they are very good, where the free Australian mammogram is crap. The first time I went they made me repeat both mammogram and ultrasound. And was madly running around and making me sign paper work to release past mammogram for then to look at. That’s my story.

Now I believe if it moves around it is a very good sign, the staff always tell me cancer doesn’t move, it attach itself. The fact that they are being so persistent is a good thing, and the reason why, I keep paying lots of money to go private.

Now two times in the past for me, if they do find something they are concerned about, it’s another ultrasound but with a needle as they grab a sample and test it. I’m always told what’s happening and why, when they book me in again. Strange how they aren’t really informative.

Try not to worry and please let me know how you get on.

Poor timing! Poor you!

I went through a period of going back and forth for mammograms and ultra sounds about 20 years ago. They didn’t know what they were looking at. I had an appointment every month for several months. I thought it couldn’t be serious with a month in between, but they were so serious! In the end, they decided it was ‘changed tissue’, whatever that is. I’ve been recalled twice after routine mammograms, and had a benign cyst removed. You’d think I’d be spooked, particularly as my sister died from breast cancer secondaries.

Yep thats looking like it @juju. So second test the tech said I have dense breasts and they wanted a closer look at an area on my right boob. Two days later (Wednesday) the doctor called and said i had dense breasts and what was probably a fibroadenoma but he didnt have the results of the second test yet.  Then today, Monday he called with results. A tad confused as he said, “probably benign” must go back for repeat test in 6 months, nothing to worry about. Meanwhile i asked if it was nothing to worry about why do i need to go back in 6 months? And he said radiologist just being thorough. So sounds like they don’t think its that serious but I am worried all the same, especially since this lump wasn’t there on my last ultrasound last month.

How do they expect you not to worry?? Is there a reason they can't take a biopsy now?

Does your breast density alter through the month?

"probably benign" wouldn't be enough of a result for me so 6 months wait would bother me hugely.

I would ask for another appt. to discuss face2face ............. my consultant told me that 'no healthy breast has a lump in it'.

Sorry, i meant it wasnt there on the ultrasound last month, not last year. Anyway I managed to actually get hold of the radiologist’s reports and wow, do I have lumpy breasts.

Long story short there are 2 smooth nodules on the left breast, as well as another 2 nodules on the right breast  which seem similar to the ones on the left, all around 4mm. And I have asymmetric density in my right breast so wants me back as a precaution to see that. And with the nodules his assessment was “benign appearing” nodules, and RADS 3 - probably fibroadenomas -  see me again in 6 months.

I guess both my breasts are unhealthy! I did do some googling though and fibroadenomas seem receptive to hormones and since my hormones are up and down like crazy (6 months no period, then a period in October,  then nothing, and now I am pretty sure I am coming on again in a couple weeks (dont ask about discharge texture lol) then I am blaming menopause for this too.

I have always had fluid filled cysts but these arent those. In fact whats weird is my “normal” fluid filled cysts are gone, got these new ones instead. Wonder if I always had them but the diagnosis has changed, or if they changed, or if they went away and these new ones appeared….

I am trying not to worry. The surgeons comment worries me a bit @CKLD but I am trying to remember Scrubs where the surgeon’s were portrayed as slice and dice  and not specialists in this lol ;)
