Hello Everyone
« on: November 01, 2021, 01:22:42 PM »

New member.  Really glad to have found the forum.  Found it as I've recently changed HRT and am concerned it's not going well, so been googling to see if anyone out there had experienced similar.

Was on Femoston 1/10 for a couple of years, which suited me well.  I felt as if it managed most of the perimenopausal symptoms I'd been experiencing, other than dry vagina which I've been managing with Oestrogen cream.  Having reached 54 GP advised I should move to Femoston Conti.  At the same time, as I was experiencing unusual bleeds, a scan identified a reasonably sized fibroid (whichI was completely unaware of as it has given me no discomfort).

I have recently stopped taking the Conti after 3 months.  I have had low level bleeding every day since starting taking it, which didn't seem right to me.  Immediately upon stopping taking it I had a very heavy period and have stopped bleeding today after 5 days.  I'm thinking possibly I was moved from the estrogen / progesteron Femoston too early maybe?  How are you supposed to know if you've been period free for 12 months when you're taking Femoston with progesteron?  Also, I'm worrying that the HRT may have been aggravating the fibroid?

I'm now waiting weeks for an appointment with my GP to discuss what next.  It just feels a lot of the time as if the GP, despite being very supportive generally, doesn't actually know a huge amount more than I do, so good to find the forum and learn from other womens' experiences

Morning.  Was there really a need to move HRT regime due to age?

I would ask for a referral to a menopause clinic at your next appt..   Keep up with the oestrogen!  We have threads about 'bladder issues' and 'vaginal atrophy' which are worth a browse.

:welcomemm:  Hopefully someone with fibroid history will be along.

Hi annacatweasel.

Conti HRT is known to cause the bleeding you describe for the first six months of use in some women and it should then settle down.  If you have a look at the information leaflet this should be mentioned under side effects. You will have had a heavier bleed as you have discontinued the FemSeven and it is the withdrawal of progesterone which also initiates bleeding. I had bleeding for six months and so returned to sequi regime to give a more predictable bleed. There are others on here who have done the same. If you have been on HRT for some time then 54 is the age at which doctors feel it is safe to switch us on to a conti regime. If the bleeding was the only thing that didn't seem to be right on FemSeven conti then you could always start it again but if there were other problems then perhaps you might consider a different regime.

HRT does increase fibroids in many cases.
