First bleed back on HRT
« on: August 03, 2021, 09:54:14 AM »

Just finished my first pack of HRT (Elleste duet 2mg). Previously stopped taking it because of painful  bleeds, so tried the coil but that didnt work for me. Went five months without HRT but then hit the brick wall and could not cope anymore. Had no bleeds at all whilst off it. I felt awful throughput the progesterone phase, then woke up two nights ago as I could feel the blood coming out of me!!
Managed to go to work despite the chronic pain throughout my pelvis and bottom. I could not sit down as everything hurt so much. Went to bed at 7 oclock last night, had to get up every few hours to change my pad. Woke up this morning and now have to change the bed.
I tried to insert a tampon but could not get it in!!!
I feel so unwell, I am drained. I thought i had left all this behind, and am so disappointed to be suffering like this again.
I know I have fibroids, but they have not been checked for years.
Will it get better each month I wonder? What are my alternatives? I cannot see a way forward at the moment xx

Can HRT trigger fibroids?   I would get my GP to arrange 4 a scan/exam regarding the fibroids as well as making sure that your VitD and Iron levels are OK.

I could never wear a tampon ...... if you are bleeding enough to need to change the sheets your GP can prescribe medication also, lay on a bath towel 2night which will be easier than washing sheets?

The first couple of months can give heavy and painful bleeds and this should settle by the third month. I hate that bruised feeling. Are you using nighttime pads which give more protection. Sorry you couldn't insert a tampon as using both does obviously help with absorbing heavy flow. Has it slowed a bit now?

HRT causes fibroids to grow. Did your GP take this into account?

Interested comments guys, I did not know that HRT can increase fibroids. Will give it another month and see if it settles down.

Oestrogen causes fibroids to grow which is why, postmenopause, they shrink and disappear. There may be info on the patient info leaflet about this.
