Wild cat conservation
« on: March 16, 2021, 02:23:39 PM »

The plan is to release kittens born at the captive breeding centre at the Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig, near Aviemore, at selected locations. [in Scotland]

The first wildcat to arrive is a young female called Nell.

She was born on the Alladale Wilderness Reserve near Ardgay in Sutherland. Her kittens could be among the first to be released into the wild.

The worry is that because they are mixing with feral cats that 'wild' cats will die out, however, that's evolution in action.  Not many species will inter-mix so blood lines remain purer.  Cows, horses etc. as well as pet cats and dogs will mate with anything, however I can't, off the top of my head, think of other wild animals.  Wolves may.  Whereas none of the cat species inter-breed.  Bears are solitary.  Deer have a hierarchy.
