Peri-Hell
« on: May 19, 2021, 07:48:00 AM »

 Hi,

I'm here looking for advice as during a looooong journey through peri I still do not know which way to turn?!  :-\

I've been peri for 5 years now (from age 39). I have finally been referred to a specialist and was advised to have a Marina coil fitted for my progesterone and take tablet estrogen. Previous to this I put temporarily on Evorel Sequi which helped a little with my many peri symptoms.

After 5 months of having the Marina I have taken it out myself due to my mental health deteriorating at an alarming rate. I went from being up and down on my Evorel patches to being near suicidal with the Marina coil and my anxiety went through the roof. I was advised to keep the coil in for six months for it to settle but I just could not cope with the depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts that accompanied it. The appointments for removal were months away so I took it out myself. Following this I had some Evorel Sequi patches left over from before and have put those back on until I see my specialist again in July.

I started on the Evorel Conti and immediately felt better - More energy, less brain fog, less aches and pains and my mental health improved ten fold!! I did not cry ONCE during those two weeks on the Conti patch, however as soon as I put my Evorel 50 patch on I have gone back to a blubbering, anxious, tired mess??

Does anyone have any thoughts on this or advice??

Hi Keeleyruth. Sorry you are going through this again. Was it a different doctor who persuaded you to try the Mirena again? I see from previous posts that last time you couldn't tolerate it either so it seems very wrong of them to fit you with another.

Have you got enough Evorel to last you until your appointment? You may find you get quite a substantial bleed now that you have removed the
Mirena - not sure I could have done that as I can't reach that far inside - so be prepared for that to happen. Some women do feel much better when on the progesterone phase of the patches so I think you must be one of them. I'm not sure what progesterone is contained in the Mirena but I don't think it's the same as in the Evorel. What tablet oestrogen were you given?

I hope that you have some support for your mental health too from friends and family.

Hello Keeleyruth and welcome to the forum.

Can I ask, are you saying that progesterone in the coil and the patch were causing your mental health issues and that you felt better on the Oestrogen only patch? I haven't used patches for a long time so I am unsure which ones contain oestrogen only and which ones have both oestrogen and progesterone in them.

I am sure that other ladies will be along soon to advise you.

Take care.

Hi Kathleen I think the oestrogen only patch made Keeleyruth feel worse. In Evorel sequi the first two weeks patches are called Evorel 50 which are oestrogen only and the second two weeks are Evorel conti which contain both hormones. Some women do feel better during the progesterone phase but it depends on the type of progesterone.
