Smear test today
« on: October 20, 2020, 05:28:18 AM »

I have a smear test today my last one was five years ago and a lot has changed since then

I was able to have intercourse
I had no virginal atrophy
I had less UTIs

I am currently in Spain
Have just finished two courses of antibiotics for UTIs

I am so nervous about having this smear test especially because I had to have a GA for a hysteroscopy  procedure because my cervix was so closed .

Any advice please ?

I feel you - it’s completely understandable why you feel nervous.
Take some pain killers before you go and explain to the nurse/dr how you feel and why before they do anything. I wish I had done last time I needed something doing down there!

Are you having treatment for the atrophy?

Did your urine show evidence of infection at a Lab. test?

Let is know how you get on.

So after 2 lots of antibiotics I still felt uncomfortable down below .

Through my health insurance ( currently in Spain)I booked an appointment for a smear with a gyno. Arrived at the clinic and
He took some history details and Details of the two antibiotics, I told him I was still having low tummy pain off and on .

He asked me to undress and said he needed to check inside my vagina with a probé thing , so on the monitor he told me my bladder was low and when I coughed it bounced about . He also said I had vaginal atrophy which he believes contributes to the low bladder .

So he wants me to do a urine sample to check that I don’t still have an infection and he then suggested the Mona Lisa touch .

18 months ago in U.K. I had a operation on my bladder called an autologous op for incontinence , I stopped HRT patches two years ago , I just don’t know if it’s all connected .

Also had a hystoscopy and thickening of linings of womb which was treated .

I have suffered with UTIs for years and vaginal atrophy.

He said he won’t do a smear until antibiotic are clear from my system

Not sure what to think of the Mona Lisa , I am so confused

He's on the ball, well done that Man!

As oestrogen levels drop so elasticity becomes less so parts might sag including the womb and bladder.  As for Vaginal atrophy, it mimics urine in infection-type symptoms really really well !  ABs should not be prescribed unless there is an infection though they do help the need to P symptoms: as will pain relief.  However, appropriate vaginal atrophy treatment can be really helpful in easing symptoms: 'vagifem' or 'ovestin'.

Let us know how you get on.  There's a thread on the Mona Lisa Touch here if you put it in2 the search box.  Make notes  ;).
