Desogrestal and ostrogel
« on: October 05, 2020, 06:52:27 PM »

Hi everyone
Need a bit of advice please. Been on desogestrel mini pill for about 7 years. Worked fine for me never had a period in this time. Last couple of years started getting all menopause symptoms. Very low mood and brain fog the worst out of symptoms and aching joints. Been to doctors and asked for hrt and the ostogel. Doc has left me on pill and put me on 2 pumps of gel. Been on it for 5 weeks now and symptoms have not improved if anything aching joints have got worst. I am 49 but my concern is that taking this pill with the gel is unlicensed. What does this actually mean. Any suggestions please
Thanjs

Hi you will need to take another progesterone tablet.... Utrogestan or Provera.....as there is not enough progesterone in the mini pill for HRT purposes . X

Hi and thanks for the reply. Why does the doctor not know this. I have to ring on my 3 month review so will question this. Which s the better one out of them both, heard a few horror stories with the utrogeston not being tolerated
Thanks

Hi I use Utrogestan and I don’t have any side effects. Try not to listen to the scare stories as there are many women who use Utrogestan without any problems.

I wouldn’t wait 3 months . I would get it sorted ASAP.

You can carry on taking the mini pill with the Utrogestan if you need contraception.

Hi Kacey

 :welcomemm:

You can either take utrogestan all the time (100 mg daily) because the mini pill is stopping your periods, or take it 25 days out of 28 (100 mg daily) in case a withdrawal bleed is needed, or you can go full cyclical - as you don't know whether you are peri-menopausal or post-meno yet due to the mini pill. This would be 12 days out of 28 or 12 days per calendar month (x 200 mg) . Good luck!

Hurdity x

I think I will take just 100mg everyday, don't want to start taking 200mg incase get side effects. See how it goes.
Thanks for all your replies
