Sat out on our patio once it cooled last evening.  Watered the pot plants round the pond edges which disturbed the frogs who left the pond early to forage.  Spent 2 hours feeding them live meal worms ......... about 8 frogs in various sizes.  Plus a robin, a pair of blackbirds and a female blackbird; starlings and jackdaws had retired early.

It was lovely.  Orange blossom wafting scent over the garden.  Once the screaming child down the road had stopped, it was peaceful  ;)

A first

I disturbed an adult frog earlier. It gave an eerie scream, turned over and began to fit.  Back legs stretched out, arms crossed over it's chest.  Shook for over 20 mins [the frog, not me] then began to relax.  It was another 10 mins. B4 it turned over and resumed sitting like a frog.

They are out and about because I wanted the pots earlier.  So have been feeding them, Mummy blackbird and a baby robin live meal worms.  No sign of hedgehogs for over 2.5 months but badgers were fighting in the neighbours' garden this week  :o

That's a shame CLKD. Badgers equals no hedgehogs usually. We don't re-home hedgehogs into any area where there is evidence of Badgers as the hogs which are fortunate not to be disemboweled soon leave the area. 😢

Morning Taz >wave<

It's the 2nd time in over 30 years that badgers have been noted here.  We are surrounded by farm land and the nearest known sett is 3 miles away.  But there are new houses being built 500 yards which was over-grown for 50+ years.  So maybe they have been 'disturbed' ......... or probably moved due to circumstances beyond their control.  The neighbour plans to block the hole under his fence to prevent them getting off the bank behind us into our gardens.  Protected or not, they will not be tolerated in our garden where we have several £thousands worth of plants.

Around 30 years ago an adult was seen at dawn (3.30 a.m.) trotting down the cul-de-sac the 'wrong' way but no one saw it toddle back  ::).  We've also had a herd of cows, 5 large horses, guinea fowl  ;D

Our flying ant day was yesterday. Amazing to see them being encouraged and hauled to the surface by the worker ants. One chance to fly and mate before their wings drop off and they start a new colony.

It could be age or a virus.  Is there swelling around the claws for example, is the beak gaping?  We have birds hit our windows often regardless of how we dress them i.e. with silouttes or keeping curtains drawn.

Haven't been out yet - DH was mobbed by the female blackbird whilst he picked fruit for our breakfast  ::)
