We get lots of birds on our feeders, but sadly this attracts a Sparrowhawk, who often swoops down. >:(

I have refilled them and put out another one which they soon saw and came swooping in for their afternoon tea  :)

The sparrowhawk is also hungry ellie. I know it is sad but it is nature and they are wonderful birds. We have a breeding pair in the spring and summer and they bring their two young to practice flying from our roof to the garage roof opposite. They also introduce them to the fast-food outlet in our garden.

Send the dog out?  Borrow the neighbour's cat  ;)

Clear skies, few birds today ..........

Grass? My garden has been reduced to mud over the past few weeks.

I wouldn't call mine a lawn - more like a little patch of grass/mud  ;D. The starlings love it of course - marching along in a row digging around for the daddy longleg and cockchafer grubs.

All I've seen in our garden this week is a solitary starling.  All my feeders are topped up but no birds around.  It's a mystery!

We get days like that yesterday was one, then mid morning i thought i might know why as there was a beautiful sparrowhawk sitting proudly on the fence. The little ones were not risking becoming his dinner, no sign of him today and the tits and robins are having breakfast  :)

It's usually a sign of colder weather in the offing when the feeders are full of birds, I also noted that if there is less food *in* the feeders, the birds will flock to them more often ........ I had to break the ice on the pond and bird baths this morning  :-\ and the sky is grey  :(

We have a heater in our pond ( it's just to keep a circle of water from freezing ) .....This morning all the fry  ( young fish) where gathered round the heater . Some of them are only a couple of inches long, and look like Koi.
