I just like to say I've noticed no difference in my sex life since my hysterectomy.

Hiya,racjen. I remember you too.

I noticed a big  difference with sexual function after ovary removal.   I retained uterus. My doc said  That the structural changes of hysterectomy can sometimes affect sex for some women.  She said The removal of ovaries alone doesnt involve this factor but can cause problems for different reason. Namely the drop in hormones. Which luckily hasnt  been a factor for you.  And I see lyncola hasnt been affected with hysterectomy.

I have read that some women feel it's the removal of cervix which creates an issue with orgasm rather than uterus. But others feel it makes no difference.

I'm struggeling so much still after nearly 2 years ive been labelled progesterone intolerant  and my new gynae is aware of my mental health situation since meno and how severe it's been.  She said I would have practically zero eastrogen with no ovaries and no hrt and  asked me why my uterus wasnt removed at same time. It felt like she was bringing hysterectomy into the equation  But I just dont want anymore surgery.

.At the moment I'm in the position of low eastrogen after failed pellet and I've now got the mirena to contend with.  So I'm all over the place. Like you.  Super sensitive to the slightest change or fluctuation and totally unable to balance out P.   I am at that point now of almost saying enough is enough and wanting to see if I might actually feel better with no HRT and find other ways to cope with symptoms and long term concerns like bone density.  Because at times its felt my life was in more  immediate risk  from mental health than any other factors.   There  is one more hrt option which I  will maybe  look into further first. it's not available on NHS. There are threads about it.

Its lovely to hear from you.  Sorry you are still.struggeling.  but its great to hear you have some positives in your life.  Much love TC xxxxx

I've noticed a massive difference. Really miss the deep orgasms. The clitoral ones are ok but, for me, nothing beats the ones from the cervix and uterus.

Taz, yes I've heard other women saying this and it's one of the things that really worries me, cos obviously you can't know until it's done and then there's no going back. On balance I think my feeling of wanting to avoid surgery at all costs hasn't changed. Thanks for all the replies xxx

I thought I would just add to this topic. I had a total hysterectomy 9 years ago due to progesterone intolerance. Like you I am very sensitive to hormones. The progesterone made me feel awful no matter which type I took. I wish I could say it was plain sailing after that but it hasn't been. I am not as bad as when I took the progesterone but still find it difficult balancing the oestrogen as  tiny increase or decrease affects me in a big way. I just wanted to add my honest opinion but as we all know everyone is different.

I had a hysterectomy age 32 because I had complete prolapse.  I refused the repair along with the womb removal and it helped the bowel and bladder prolapses quite a bit.  I still enjoyed sex once I'd healed inside and they accidentally severed the blood supply to the ovaries which put me into menopause but I didn't regret having the op x

Total hysterectomy gave me chance to actually enjoy some kind of life and happiness having had stage 4 endo for years, hydrosalpinx, endless cysts (the final one the size of a grapefruit) and years of pain. I was only 33 at surgery and I've been on patches ever since.

Do I regret the Op? No, not one bit. I was a mess inside. Has it affected intimacy? Yes, but something has to give here and I can work on that!

My conclusion (for anyone) is to establish how bad you feel your current health is and when you get to the stage of enough is enough... then that is your time to go ahead with big surgery. That makes your mind up for you as it did mine. It will always carry risk (as surgery does) but you have to feel the risk is worth going for if it will give you a better overall health.

Good luck moving forward  :)

Thanks LizzyLoo, I think the thing is - in your case it was pretty clear that a hysterectomy would help with your problems, so you knew there was something to gain even if you lost in other ways. Unfortunately in my case I can't be sure it would help,  Paisley's situation is more like mine, in that I'm intolerant to progesterone but also struggle to balance estrogen to control the extreme mood swings I go through. If I had a hysterectomy and found that, not only did it not help but it impared my sex life (or caused other major side effects) I'd really really regret it. On balance I don't think I'm prepared to take the risk.

Yep 👍🏻 think you?re right and it's perhaps too much of a risk for you at this stage. Hope you can find your solution that will work for you  ;)
