Hi all, I have mentioned this on another thread but am getting more worried as bleeding a little more. Not massively but not getting less and I wonder if I am not taking my HRT correctly.   So far I have taken it continuously.  The doctor I saw didn't discuss it with me and there is nothing on the pack as I have checked.  I still have a uterous, I am 54 and my womb lining is thin as I had scans etc before my mirena coil was taken out 6 months ago.  I haven't had a period for 15 years or so as Mirena stopped them...which is why I had one. HRT is for sweats, anxiety, low mood etc

I looked it up on the internet and wonder if I be taking my HRT on a cycle, and stopping either the utrogeston or all of it on a certain day, like I dimly remember doing with the pill 30 years ago or more.

Please help, I did speak to a doctor (one I hadn't heard of on the phone) last Wednesday but she was awful, and literally said she wasn't sure...I was tempted to tell her to google it.  She also told me no way was utrogesten licenced to take vaginally (makes me tired  taking it)

I feel so uninformed and not helped by by doctor I was tempted to pay to see Dr Louise Newson, but not sure I could warrant paying for more than one consultation or so and wasn't sure how it all worked.

If you're peri you should take it cyclically as above, if you're meno you can do it either way. If you've had a mirena I guess you won't know if you're peri or meno. Most women are meno by 54 but not all. She's right utro isn't licensed for vaginal use in the UK but it is in the rest of Europe. There's a post on it. Is there a reason you stopped using mirena? As you know you get on well with it I'm not sure why you'd want to change?

/I was starting to bleed with Mirena, they were worried it was cancer or something hence many scans etc all done v quickly.  But once Mirena was removed was fine (I did suggest to the doctor I wondered if it was Mirena causing bleed but he just referred me for scans etc...v good of him but it wasn't until after all the investigations they removed it....)

I don't think I know enough to advise. Breakthrough bleeding can be expected in the first 6 months of a new conti regime though what you have may be more than that. If you get any signs your own  cycle is functioning it would indicate you're peri so should use a cycle. What I don't understand is why the bleeding stopped when the mirena was removed. Sometimes mirena is used to stop bleeding when other progestins haven't. Sometimes they'll find fibroids that explain the bleeding. VA can lead to bleeding too but usually not much. Confused.com  :(

Yes...me too re the Mirena.  But they did everything ..scan wise ...so don't seem to know.  TBH I feel they don't really know....which is slightly worrying but am not thinking about it.  And when I spoke to (new) doctor earlier in the week she said...well I would advise the Mirena and patch if the utrogestone isn't agreeing with you much.  ********** (insert rude words here!) ?.one doctor says this and one that...and none of them seem over interested or informed

After intermittent (extremely) periods about 4 years ago I started on HRT. I'm now 56 and every time I try a conti regime (continuous utrogestan) I bleed continually, so after 3 or 4 weeks I revert to cyclical and all is well again. I still get a brief withdrawal bleed but it is predictable, limited and liveable with! Try 200mcg a day for 14 days (at any point in the cycle, just stop taking Utrogestan for 14 days and take 200mcg a day for next 14. Use the oestrogen continually. Several of us prefer cyclical regime, and my specialist doctor feels its my choice at this stage, but did encourage me to revert to cyclic when she heard the level of bleeding I had on conti. Given you are sure that there is no underlying reason for the bleeding I'd take this route and see if it works for you.
