How far to insert vagifem.
« on: April 11, 2020, 06:05:20 AM »

The Doctor has advised me to do a two week re load of Vagifem to coat the external skin which has been causing the main problem, burning and stinging.  He also recommended the Hydromol. Just wondering, is it best to not insert the tablet too far so that it reaches the outer skin much quicker? Burning and stinging was awful yesterday pm and evening. Bonus, I did sleep, so grateful for that. It all took 6 months to settle last time, so only two to go. Can't wait to recieve my yes product in the post.   Sorry to post yet another question, but all your replies do reassure me.

I usually place the vagifem about half way in on the bladder wall just above the pubic bone. I also have Ovestin for the outside.  This combination works best for a lot of people as the vagifem doesnt always do enough outside on its own.

Thanks Deidre, I will try that. Unfortunately, ovestin doesn' t suit me as it makes me burn severely.

You could ask fot the Estriol 0.01% cream, its not as strong but may suit you better.

I use vagifem everyday at the moment as it coms out whole as often as it stays in and also use estriol twice a week externally. Never had any issues with burnning with the estriol.

Hi Midnight Shadow,

I personally find myself to insert Vagifem as far as it goes. I too have external pain and had a flare up in January. I was on two times a week and found in January that the pain was starting to get worse, so I decided to insert Vagifem up 3cm, the next day I was in a lot of pain?

So I did a 10 days every night, about 7 weeks off 3 times a week, now I'm on Vagifem one night, followed by Ovestin externally the next night, on the third night nothing, then I repeat the cycle. I use yes externally  two times a day one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Yesterday I forgot to do my afternoon as I had no discomfort.

This virginal atrophy sucks it states for me at age 45, 4 months after a hysterectomy and I still got ovaries. I would say on a good day I'm 80-90% better. Which is a lot better than all day pain.

So for some ladies insert it lower helps, but it didn't work for me, we are all different so it could be worth trying.

I hope you feel back to normal soon

Thanks Lyncola, responses are much appreciated. Felt better yesterday, thought it was going to sting and burn, which only lasted an hour. So relieved. Better this morning, but by lunchtime and now I am burning and stinging immensley. Hoping it is short lived. Do you find the yes product helpful? I have some on order. Just can't understand why it burns one day and not the next. All very frustrating.

I do find Yes to be good, I find I need combination off everything. I need the external yes to get me through the day, and I need Vagifem internally and Ovestin externally. I don't think I could survive without any of them.

I've had virginal atrophy for a year and a half now. it's a real battle, I had a flare up 3 months ago and had to reload? And from menopausal matters someone wrote that their doctor said they will never be back to normal and 80-90% better is what they can expect to achieve.

I'm fine with that, hopefully in the future better treatments will come out.  :)

I was having trouble with the vagifem not dispersing very well when using it on the daily reload. The gel substance it makes was sticking to the dispenser the next day.  So I did one day as low as I dared and one day higher up (short of as far as it will go).

On my trips round the internet, I have seen instructions to doctors which say daily for 2 weeks, then alternate days for 2 weeks.

When I first started vagifem, after it not working well with the first pack, I restarted and stayed on the alternate day for quite a while, until I could get every 3 days to work (via 2 day/3day) and stuck there (took about a year).

I also have dermol 500 which I use in the shower, microgyn actigel which has served me well for several years as this all kicked off with thrush/BV symptoms and also the yes lubricants - the oily one is useful for outside if it feels needed and probably more advisable than the body shop hemp hand cream I once tried in desperation  ::) )

There is a really good section on this Forum called "The Burning Club" - accessed via the Private Lives section...........if I remember correctly. I am on Vagifem 3 X per week/ Olive and Bee most days,  and my VA is OK but still have the odd day of discomfort now and again. I am 58yrs and 4 years post meno. The VA was diagnosed by myself,  following my first but really horrible UTI 2 years ago. I went to the GP, armed with a lot of information that I had taken from this site, and she prescribed me Vagifem without any problem.  She also said that she wished a lot more women would come forward with their VA issues as she was sure there were many suffering in silence. Unfortunately she was only a locum doctor so moved on quite soon after my visit.
However, at the end of last year I had a really horrible flare up with the VA and it went on for several weeks. I did the 14 day reload with the Vagifem but in some ways I think it made it worse. I was trying all sorts of products (YES and other lubricants) but the conclusion I came to was that for me; less was more and that I just needed to let things calm down in their own good time. I went back to Vagifem 3 per week and Olive and Bee most days and this has kept things mainly under control for the time being. I think that VA treatment is different for each of us and it is just a matter of trying to find out what works the best for you.

Whoever it was that posted on another thread about washing the area with aqueous cream instead of soap/Feminine washes is a flipping genius. So if you are suffering, try that too as well as if you need to apply afterwards. x
