post menopausal chit chat
« on: February 18, 2020, 09:59:32 AM »

Hi all, i havent posted in a while, so i thought id share how ive been getting on with this post menopausal larky, have learned a few things for sure, GPs only really acknowledge, hot sweats and tearfullness, (unless they are menoupausal specialists of course)

if you discuss anxiety, panic attacks etc  or achy joints, or bladder issues or ibs or digestive, indigestion, general feeling of crapness you can see their eyes glaze over, and one gp told me that, foggy head, vertigo related issues are nothing to do with menopause... i dont want to take hrt, as im sure you  all agree its a personal choice, im 50 now so if  my symptoms decide to get worse then i might but at the mo, im not feeling the hrt route, i have definately worked out that, a good diet and exercise does help, i lost a stone before xmas and really cut down on sugar related food, rubbish choc and bread are my downfall, as im sure you all agree in times of need a box of maltesers is the perfect remidy..... I also  cut out caffine i definately noticed it helped with general well being and hot flushes for sure, however since xmas my diet has been rubbish and ive prob put what i lost back on, so i do have to get back on it, some people i have spoke to say that when you are post menopausal it starts to get better, really? when does that happen then, i havent had a period for 4yrs now, and im so looking forward to the day when i dont feel like the worlds going to end))), or i dont have to watch what i eat incase i have indigestion for a few days))) i do have more good days than bad, but im sure you know what i mean when i say the bad days are utter crap) anyway, just touching base after a long while, and i know its feb but happy new year one and all......
ps i forgot to say i havent managed to cut out the red wine, one thing at a time i suppose)

 ;D

You'll fit right in.  OK - indigestion.  As oestrogen levels drop off, muscles may become lax : hiatus hernia and reflux are common.  I have an irritating clearing of throat cough so my GP has prescribed medication and it has certainly helped the reflux [gone] and the clearing is better.  Still annoying but better.

Lax muscles may cause aches and pains.  Lack of oestrogen can cause the body to become dry: inside and out, including the vagina  :o - have you read the threads about atrophy?  Make notes  ;)

My GP has been great.  He recognised my VA symptoms so I was treated appropriately.

Do U keep a mood/food/symptom diary?  Do you have anything that you would particularly like to ease?

What's rubbish chocolate  ;D  ??? .........  >hands over plate< ..........

Hi, yes i do try to keep a mood diary, and a food diary, however i must admit i let it slide sometimes, have been trying to reduce spicy food as i think that contributes to indigestion issues and ibs issues, i think for me, anxiety and geneneral health anxiety are really bad sometimes...i never had this before, seems to have crept up over the last 4 yrs, i had really bad labyrinthitis/vertigo 4 yrs ago that weirdly coincided with me having my last ever period, which was probably the worst period i had since i was 18, so any dizzy foggy type symptoms i get now i automatically think its coming back again as i had it it for 5weeks and it was hell, so  in turn that makes me anxious, but in truth, i do feel i worry more about health stuff, scary stuff, strokes, heart issues, cancer, and i have seriously thought of taking hrt but i feel a bit scared to, i know the pros out weigh the cons, but it still makes me feel uneasy about it, especially after reading the leaflet that goes with it...i try to rationalize and  i know every woman is different, how their body reacts to it, but the 2 of the 4 people i know that have taken it, have both had fibrods and other issues since taking it..the one i was prescribed that i didnt take, and now its out of date is evorel conti, like i said before i can have 2 or 3 months of feeling ok then i have a couple of months of feeling pretty awful.........bad choc is things like a whole bag of mini mars bars or a massive packet of onion ring crisps followed by 2 packs of jaffa cakes))))) full of sugar....so im trying to just have one or two squares of green and blacks 70% choc,,which apparently is good for you, along with a glass or 2 of red wine))) ;D

I don't drink  ;D

I do eat chocolate.  Fruits and nuts. Pancakes ........

Haven't had Jaffa Cakes for years, stop putting ideas into my head Girl  ;D ..........

Maybe make a decision about which symptom you would like to ease first?
