Meditation apps

My Women's Health Physio wants me to do 5 minutes of meditation twice a day. She mentioned Headspace and Calm. What do you think folks? Anyone using these for meditation? Are they worth the money? Any other recommendations would be gratefully received, especially for anything that doesn't cost a bomb (or even free?).

I use Calm, but have recently started using Insight Timer. It's a free app.

I believe that  headspace "basics"  is free.   

Might also  be an idea to check out YouTube there are lots of guided  meditation vids  for all different types of meditation.. I've seen a few headspace ones on there too. .  See what you think before committing to a subscription.

Hi there

I use a Linda Hall meditation via audible. It was amazing at lowering heart rate and blood pressure a few years ago and I came off beta blockers as a result.

You can choose your ?chapter? and the times range from 9 to 16 minutes.

Give it a go! I have to say I was a super skeptic when it was recommended as the best way to avoid the meds, but it did work and I now have strategies to cope on difficult days.

It's about giving yourself 'me time'.   I had various NHS tapes for relaxation, it was finding time that was the problem.  When I sat down with a  :catscratch: we would go to sleep.  The idea is to practice several times a day ...........

As well as apps maybe as the weather improves, get into the sunshine, fresh air and scenery.  I find a walk round my garden is a good starting point as it refocuses my mind  ;)

If something helps, it's never going to be a waste  ;)

I also use the Calm app.  Was a bit apprehensive about the annual cost but for me it has been worth every penny...

There is a new 'Daily Calm' 10 minute meditation every day.

I also use the sleep stories or sleep meditation every night - wouldn't be without it!

Yes, I would like to know this too! I listened to one on YouTube this morning and like the sound of her. If it brings my BP down too, that would be a bonus.

DH has white coat syndrome  ::) so bought a home blood pressure testing kit.  Used B4 breakfast at the same time every morning, he would record his pressures and hand them to the GP every 3 months.  Now he checks a week prior to any appts. and they are always OK.

A calmer person you wouldn't find this side of the moon ;-).  Do you check your measurements Joaniepat?

Yes, and I have WCS too. My old BP monitor failed at the weekend, so had to plunge out into storm Dennis on Sunday morning to buy a new one  >:(

I use her ?Simple meditations?. it's varied enough that I am not doing the same thing every day. More than that I find I can mimic some of the techniques without the guided voice when I am having a tough day at work.

I should have said too. As it was thought I had a heart problem, the consultant I saw is head of cardio care for the region. It was him who said that if I didn't want to be on beta blockers forever I would need to learn to meditate.
