Hello ! Thanks for allowing access
« on: January 29, 2020, 02:41:21 PM »

Hello, I'm Dolly and I think I'm experiencing peri-menopause.
I'm 50 this year.
My mum doesn't remember when she reached menopause, but I guess it was around age 54, so I'm probably in the thick of it.

I'm having some horrible symptoms that come and go.
I have times of a few weeks where I can't eat properly. I am ravenous but I just don't want whatever food I've made or made for me.  Sometimes After I've eaten I get silent reflux and I'm ravenous again within an hour.

I'm depressed. Sometimes I go to bed at night and I hope I don't wake up. Sometimes I have the most horrible nightmares.

Tomorrow I have to go to see a heart specialist at a Rapid Access Chest Clinic as I've been having palpitations.
I'm terrified.

I'm also on the mini pill.
This is just a brief outline of what I'm going through.
Sorry if it's a lot.
I'm looking forward to sharing and learning.
Hope to see and read some more later as I have to work now.

Hi and  :welcomemm:   Dollyspace

Type into the search bar "menopause symptoms" and you should be able to find a list.  You might be surprised just how many symptoms there are on it and they are symptoms you probably never even thought were associated with meno.

The ones you talk about in your post sound like meno to me...all horrible and unsettling and generally disruptive to your life.
Palpitations and anxiety and depression, acid reflux, heavy legs, lethargy and poor sleep are really common, but it is good you are going to get your heart checked so that you can rule out any other cause for the palpitations.  If it comes back clear you can defo say its down the drop in hormones.

The drop in oestrogen makes all the muscles in your body loose, so stomach muscles hence the reflux and I had terrible trouble with achy joints all over.

Have a read around the forum but there will be other ladies along to welcome you soon  :)

Hi Dolly and welcome,I'm in complete agreement with ladybt, all fairly ?normal? for meno,it's a viscous circle really, palpations cause anxiety which causes palpations and on it goes.
I'm sure all will be ok.please let us know how you get on

Within normal limits for peri from where I'm sitting.  As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = aches and pains and the body may become dry: skin, vagina, scalp, eyes, nostrils  ::)

Reflux can be problematic as the spincter becomes lazy due to a drop in oestrogen.  There are lots of medications to help.  Also, eating little and often can help, as can cutting out certain foodstuffs even if 1 has eaten them for years, because they might not suit.

Depression: some would say use HRT but I would say get to the GP for appropriate medication as it may well be quicker to lift depression.

Thanks for the replies ladies.
My heart is fine and the palpitations were Ectopic beats and are normal.
I've still to wear a heart monitor for 48 hours as they want to catch these episodes and they?re really random and come from nowhere, not triggered by exercise or upset.
I have that in a couple of weeks.

The list of symptoms of menopause are staggering !
Currently my left boob is having stabbing and aching pains. Just the left one!
But I have had just the right one do this in the past.
Perhaps they are growing pains  ;D
I used to work with a lot of menopausal women and they all said their boobs got bigger.
At least there's a chance they might end up the same size at last  :o

Anyway, thanks again xx
Take care xx
