Hi
Does anyone else have Pulsatile Tinnitus?  If so, how do you deal with it?
I've had standard tinnitus on & off in my right ear for years, but recently have noticed that I have Pulsatile Tinnitus in my left ear.
It's fine when there is background noise but at night it's awful.  I used to love peace & quiet but hate it now.
Any help/advice would be most welcome.

We have a thread about tinnitus, it seems 2B a common issue - I find mine worse when laying down, if I shuffle the pillow it stops that pounding deep in the ear which is probably blood pulsing.  I often ask DH if he can hear my ear when it begins to make noises  .    . 

There is a tinnitus society you might find advice there.

Yes, it's worse when I'm laying down but nothing seems to stop it.  I'd "got used" to my normal tinnitus but this is so much worse.

Have you put your little finger into the ear and given it a very good wriggle, sometimes that relates any wax inside the ear which can lessen that pulsation.

I too suffer from tinnitus in my left ear. I got used to the hi pitch ringing but noticed another noise in my left ear, it drove me insane at night.
I saw a lovely doctor on the nhs, who said it sounded much to him like a blocked eustachian tube and gave me the advise just to exercise making my ears pop. And it worked. I still have the high pitched noise but  the other sound has completely gone.
Maybe you could ask your gp to see a ear nose throat specialist?

Yes, I've had pulsatile tinnitus. This is after 30 years of hissing tinnitus, the “normal” kind. The pulsatile tinnitus was investigated. I have Eustachian tube dysfunction that creates a vacuum behind the eardrum and tests showed the eardrum wasn't moving in response to sound. So this was the explanation in my case. You need to have it checked out because it can be due to other causes.

I have this but not all of the time. Mine sounds like a moped engine running in my right ear.

I have it in the left ear too - for 8 years now.  Started during works Menlo symptoms at the same time as a sinus infection.  How are you doing with it now?  GP say anything?

Hi,
I had some tests but they said they couldn't find any cause, so I live with it.  To be honest it kind of fades into the background most days, so it's bearable.

I’m glad that it wasn’t anything serious.  Mine is manageable - I’m taking an MRI for it soon, so pray all is all.  Did you have MRI also?

As oestrogen levels drop the Eustachian tubes may narrow = tinnitus.  As can continual noise, i.e. music festivals, working in a factory without adequate ear protection, loud music in a closed space ....... mine is buzzing slightly behind my head all the while  becoming louder occasionally.  If I wriggle the ear with my little finger it sometimes eases the sensation but not for long.

My daughter has pulsatile tinnitus occasionally at night and she said an ice pack sometimes helps her, as strange as that may sound xx
