Does anybody change Oestrogel dose throughout the month?
« on: August 17, 2019, 03:12:57 AM »

Hi

Does anybody up and down oestrogel pump dose depending on symptoms throughout the month. Dr Newson suggested this but I wondered if a consistant dose would be better?

I'm peri with oestrogen fluctuations and feel crapper a couple of days before my period would have been due and a couple of days after (recent hysterectomy leaving ovaries so just guesstimating my cycle now).

Started Oestrogel in May and initially felt better but seem to have plateaued now.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous long winded post.

Hia, bumping you up!

I have been doing this, not sure if it's serving me well or not, probably not.

I'm still trying to find my sweet spot dose, so that's why I'm trying different doses. I feel that surely this is one of the great benefits of using the gel....no!

What dose are you on and what regime?

Hi, just Oestrogel due to hysterectomy, so I'm grateful for that.

I started on 1 pump, bumped up to 2. I've tried 3 on crappy days (end/beginning of my cycle I think, difficult to tell after hysterectomy), but it didn't really do anything so I've gone back to 2 pumps.

In theory yes upping pumps should be the same as evening out levels but how instant this is I don't know.

My own peri levels are the problem I think, so it will be a while until I can have a consistent dose.

I have noticed some benefits with the Oestrogel and I need it for long term health benefits with osteoporosis etc so I'm more than happy to take it.

No I don't change my doses.  I was started on 2 pumps but it wouldn't control the symptoms so I upped it by half a dose or a whole dose till I got to 4 pumps. My GP said just go straight to 4 but I did it gradually.  Sometimes when you up it, you feel crappy - it doesn't tend to work very quickly unless you are supersensitive - it took a full 3 months on 4 pumps to even out.  I would say it takes at least 2 weeks when upping doses before you realise you feel a bit better than before.

The only people I know of who very their doses upwards during a month are those women on a cycle who have problems with progesterone intolerance and sometimes they up the dose during a progesterone phase to counter some bad side effects they get with utro or provera during a cycle but it doesn't work for everyone.  Unfortunately, patience is the name of the game in this meno lark Bobidy.

I agree with Ladybt.

Specialists don't suggest that you mess around with the dose.  I too have heard of ladies who are on a cycle and take more during the progesterone phase, but if you swap and change the dose all the time then you won't know what's working. x
