Cushing's Disease is caused by a tumour in the pituitary gland.

This tumour produces high levels of a hormone called adrenocorticotropic hormone which, in turn, causes the adrenal glands to produce excessive amounts of the hormone, cortisol.

In most cases, the cause of the tumour cannot be identified.

So those adrenal glands are important but not always to blame for how a person feels.

This can present in humans and dogs.

[Adrenal fatigue or hypoadrenia is a term used by alternative medicine providers to suggest that the adrenal glands are exhausted and unable to produce adequate quantities of hormones, primarily cortisol, due to chronic stress or infections]. Wikipedia

Cortisol is the 'waking' hormone.  Normal but can be distressing if one is woken suddenly which can cause a feeling of shock and an alteration of blood sugar which can cause nausea.  I was woken suddenly anytime from 3.30 a.m.  :'( ; deep, prehensile fear.

What are the symptoms of adrenal gland failure?

Signs and symptoms may include:

Extreme fatigue.

Weight loss and decreased appetite.

Darkening of your skin (hyperpigmentation).

Low blood pressure, even fainting.

Salt craving.

Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).

Nausea, diarrhea or vomiting (gastrointestinal symptoms).

Abdominal pain.

Addison's Disease can be diagnosed by a professional, both in humans and animals.  It isn't something that the man in the street can even hazard a guess at.  To get a definitive diagnosis can take many months.

From the Addison Disease self-help web-site

Addison's Disease is a rare endocrine condition where the adrenal glands cease to function, so that your body no longer produces enough of certain essential hormones, known as steroid hormones. The adrenal glands are small triangular shaped glands that sit on top of your kidneys. Their job is to produce the hormones that keep the body functioning properly ...........

Cortisol - from Great Ormond Street

Cortisol – this is the body's  natural steroid and has three  main functions:

helping to control the blood sugar level

helping the body deal with stress

helping to control blood pressure and blood circulation

If the body does not make enough cortisol, a tablet version is given. This tablet is called ‘hydrocortisone' and is given at regular intervals throughout the day. Without treatment your child will become very ill.

My son was treated for this by our GP so it is misleading to say it is an 'alternative practicaners' diagnosis only. In fact the list of symptoms you give seem totally different to what we know.  He had weight gain not loss with anxiety and depression. He did have fatigue but high blood pressure not low.

Wikipedia is not a good source for medical info.   :-\

Some is from Wikipedia others from NHS ..........

What was he diagnosed with ?  certainly 'failure' is banded about by some looking for the cause of symptoms ....... without discussing with their medical practitioners.  I am interested in what basis people judge adrenal 'failure' on.

Was it diagnosed once you got to the GP?  What treatment were you offered?

Adrenal gland fatigue. He was tested and it has taken the best part of four years to get well. Just because it is not yet recognised by everyone does not mean it doesn't exist.

Why do you get the idea that I don't believe it exists  :-\ - my query is whether people think they have this due to symptoms which could be caused by other issues, or whether it's diagnosed by a professional.  Also, what is the suggested treatment?

I'm not sure what the original point of the original post was CLKD as you asked a question but then answered it? Are you concerned you have adrenal fatigue/failure yourself or are you asking for others?
