Finally got my hands on an increased dose of Oestrogen (Yay!) in the form of Oestrogel (Oestrodose) as a replacement for my way too low dose of 1mg Elleste.
Now, I've got to work out how to use it to maximum benefit to me, especially as due to eczema & pruritus I use nothing but emollients to wash with. The meno specialist said it was fine but the leaflet mentioned that it might cause issues (it particularly mentions benzalkonium chloride & SLS). I can stop using the first and never let SLS touch my skin but I wanted to ask others what they clean their skin with before applying the gel.
I'll be applying it in the morning (2 pumps) when I have my post night sweats wash ( I soak in the tub and do my main emollient application in the evening). I have a super sensitive soap wash (£8 a small bottle!) I can use on the application site but I'd rather use a non-glycerine based emollient.
Second, the skin on my arms and shoulders is one of the driest areas on my body. Inner thighs are better but will dry skin cause an issue? I've seen it mentioned that the area covered by gel should be equivalent to 200-400sqcm or 2 hand prints. Is this about right?
Lastly, I want to maximise the amount of time each dose stays in my system. Any tips on how to do this? I know the transdermal route bypasses the liver but obviously I'd like to hold off the night sweats if I can!
Sorry for the 20 questions but I want to get it right as quick as I can. My peri's current main symptom is pain: Joints and major muscles in my body are dessicated, lax & screaming! Can't even take a short drive or do half an hours gardening without paying for it!
