Dry, saggy skin!
« on: February 20, 2019, 08:20:09 PM »

 Hi everyone
I'm new here. Last period exactly five years ago. I think I went through the menopause pretty much ok. No real hot flushes. Sleeping pattern good and general health has stayed good. However, this is probably a bit of a minor moan in comparison to the way many womens not good experiences, but, my skin has become so dry on just about every part of my body I literraly look scaled on days I don't moisturise!
It's also lost a lot of collagen which I know happens too. This seems to have come on very quickly in the last 8 months or so. I've tried so many oils and moisturiser nothing really seems to make a huge difference. Also the sagginess makes me look I think older than I actually am (57)Arms especially.
I've not taken any HRT as I didn't feel I needed as felt ok in general.
I appreciate as I said this seems minimal to others experiencing many symptons but it is getting me down a bit now. I wonder if any of you lovely ladies could advise on anything I could use or take to help.
Thanking you
Julie x ::)

Hi Julie & welcome to the site.
I have never taken hrt either, I think I still look ok for my age, always do my hair, makeup etc, I do weights every day if I can,not much mind you, just 10mins or so,there are lots of exercises on YouTube for arms. I also use Estée Lauder moisturiser, serum and eye cream, quite luxurious but my treat to myself,I'm not saying it makes you look miraculously younger but it certainly gives you good skin but my skin is starting to sag also, lowered oestrogen is definitely a contributor to diminishing plumpness of the skin. I would say definitely use a night time moisturiser,it really does help😊good luck

Ohhhh, arms!
I hate mine, they're starting to go wrinkled at the top, like inner arm....
And all that working out I did when I was younger too, what a waste of time! Lol
My face is quite thin, and I'm starting to get wrinkles at the side of my mouth, god I hate them, so I plaster the moisturiser on at night, but it don't work miracles, but it does keep them moisturised. I use a moisturiser every night all over my body, I like coconut or cocoa butter, but I think, what will be will be, it's all in our genes at the end of the day.
Don't let it get you down, just moisturise and get on with your life, some ladies take fish oils, or other vitamins and minerals, as dealing with the inside eventually starts to show on the outside...

Hi Julie

Cera Ve Moisturising cream in a pot is a good affordable cream. Has things like ceramides and hydralonic acids in it for hydration. I use on my face at night and also for body, multi purpose. Good for sensitive skin and rosacea. You can buy it from Boots in the specialist skincare section with the eczema creams.

Also try getting a resistance band for a little arm training at home. You can buy online or I purchased from my local physio. Then look up YouTube videos, you can work your biceps and triceps with a band. I'd dread going to a gym now so prefer to do privately at home.

Days of sleeveless tops for me are long gone!

Lack of oestrogen causes laxity of muscles particularly under the arms: bat wings?  Interesting about the testosterone Birdy, something I rarely think about.

However, I don't look at my body ........ [other then my upper lip and chin ;-)]. too busy getting on and if someone doesn't like what they see, then look away I say  ;D.  DH has stuck with me whatever  :-*

Browse round.  Make notes.

DH uses Nivea on his legs every night as they are scaly.  I find Vaseline hand cream in the yellow bottle absolutely fine as is the one with a hint of tan  ;) ...... it's about Trial and Error a bit.  Some ladies find 'yes' and 'sylc' products useful.
