State 2nd pension
« on: February 06, 2019, 09:45:38 AM »

The earlier thread about State pensions got me thinking ( I know very dangerous)

8 years ago DH and I both got a state pension forecast which showed how much our current pension was and how much they expected it to be at normal retirement age.
DH showed he would get the full state pension plus a state second pension of £50 pw however yesterday when he checked on line it's only showing the basic pension the other has just disappeared I knew they had stopped the state second pension in favour of a standard amount for everyone but surely they can't take away something you have paid for !!!!

We have both completed the forms to get a paper copy of the current forecast which I'm just off to post
But if anyone knows anything about this could you advise please.

Many thanks

I will ask my husband. He opted out of part of his pension into surps, or something. He will also get a reduced amount.

Most of this is beyond me ::)

Thanks Agatha,

Re my post, it is SIPS not SURPS, or  SERPS apparently.

This is the reliant web page.

Thanks for the links Shadyglade and Agatha I've had a quick look but can't seem to find the answer to my question. But that's probably me I find it all rather confusing. Perhaps I need surp of something  ;D

The forms are now in the post so I'll just wait and see what figures they come up with.
Still annoyed about the changes made to the age you qualify for your pension ( six years in my case and a year in DH case) so we won't be happy if  we've also lost that.

Welcome to my world! I get my pension in September. I don't know how much as I can't bear to look I'm one of the ‘54 birthdays, so if I was 3 months older, I would have got my pension earlier.

The idea behind removing SERPS was to equalise the state pension. Under SERPS the additional pension paid was based on NI contributions so benefitted higher earners.
I've worked 40 years full time and I'm not pleased that I have to wait until 66 to get my pension instead of getting it at 60.

That's where he checked PF and all it shows is the full current pension of £164 pw . The state second pension which is shown on the two previous paper copies isn't there !!!

I'll update when we receive the paper copy.

The 2 pensions were all brought into one in the state pension changes a couple of years ago. X
