Restart gel and Utrogestan
« on: December 15, 2018, 07:10:41 AM »

Hi all
I'm just going to start back on the gel and Utrogestan after being off it for a few months as it wasn't working for my flushes at all. I had extremely bad anxiety and weight loss so started taking mirtazapine and I have put 7lb back on which was a good thing because at 5'8 and 8st 11 I looked like I was starving to death and to be honest the anxiety made me feel like I was dying. My hot flushes were horrendous, 2-3 in an hour and extreme, I knew they weren't normal. Anyway, the mirtazapine sorted out those flushes as they were from anxiety and they have also helped my fibromyalgia somewhat but I am still having what I'm calling normal flushes now and also know I'm still not quite right whatever that is as I've had mental health problems since my periods started in my teens and I'm sure it's all been hormone related and just missed by docs  My question is though as I have just had a blood test back from endocrinologist whom I see regularly as I have a prolactinoma and it says I have suspected endometriosis (which in earlier posts on here I was asking if anyone had ever urinated blood but only on their period) will the HRT aggravate the Endo? I was offered earlier this year a camera to look for it but I declined as I had only just started a new job but now wish I'd gone for it. My blood test also pointed out my Estradiol level is <44? I have no idea how low this is but I haven't had a period since August.  I had the mirena for about 3 weeks but the pain of it being in there was unbearable and I had to have it out as I couldn't walk properly without painkillers (possibly Endo?)Also how do I get my doc to prescribe me Testogel? I think that's a part of what's missing too. I have never enjoyed a healthy sex/love life because of the prolactinoma and now I never will because of the menopause. I'm 48 and still waiting to feel normal lol. Well done if you followed this rambling post...

Hi Jane

44 is an extremely low (post meno) reading for oestrogen. Your FSH levels must be through the roof - no wonder you're flushing so much and are feeling so anxious! You poor thing!
Are you going to try a sequi regime when you restart? Because you need some oestrogen, and it might be wise to start off as sequi, so the oestrogen can begin controlling the flushing and anxiety.

I wouldn't be looking for the testosterone just yet - it's important to get the oestrogen level up to optimal first, and have had a good three months on both oestrogen and progesterone to see if it will settle, and look at adding testosterone if it's necessary after that. And remember to take the Utrogestan at night, as it can be quite sedating.

Now for the endo. You say it ‘might' be endo, but were unable to have it checked out at the time. Please go and get yourself thoroughly checked - scans, cameras, whatever it takes, to either confirm or rule it out...you don't need that worry on your mind. How were your periods before? I believe hrt actually can help some of these types of conditions as the progesterone part keeps the lining quite thin, but that would need to be checked by your gynae.

And mirtazapine is brilliant isn't it? I take a tiny dose (7.5mg) to get me to sleep at night - and it knocks me right out!!

Anyway, good luck with everything xx
