Skin sensitivity / tight muscles
« on: December 18, 2018, 03:16:13 PM »

Hi ladies

Another question which I hope you'll be able to help me with - I've just started on HRT, the 37.5mg estradot patches as prescribed by a menopause specialist.

I recently posted about some of my symptoms which were mainly bladder and possible VA issues - but I also have sore / sensitive skin which is made worse by clothing rubbing on it at times - this is either around my inner thigh / on the knicker line and also sometimes around my buttocks ( sorry for TMI). It's such an odd sensation and one that's difficult to talk about, but it has a massive impact on how I feel day to day.

I'm hoping this is another low estrogen symptom which will get better as the HRT kicks in - can anyone relate to this or offer any suggestions of how to relieve it eg creams etc?

Thanks for reading!

I have that same sensitivity in those areas as well. Sometimes wearing any clothing is awful. I think it's the nerves being a bit hyperactive,  for me anyways. I get the sensitivity in my back or even arms sometimes. Sorry no solutions yet.

I have had very similar recently. Rather like knicker elastic chafing on one side. Vagifem clears it for me.

Sorry to hear others have this too, it's pretty unpleasant isn't it!

Good to hear that Vagifem helped you though Katejo, that's reassuring as I'm hoping the estrogen patches will also help given time....

Has anyone had any experience of vitamin E helping with this type of thing? I've read in several places that it's good for skin issues....

I have it as part of my ever revolving va symptoms which vary in flavour and intensity. It's like anything putting pressure in that area is uncomfortable just hypersensitive sensation.
I also had it to my spine buttocks and legs!
It started mild peaked and has gradually faded over the last week
I still Have the cycling va symptoms
Yesterday we traveled to Xmas cottage which was two hours I was close to tears with despair from needing a second pee during the journey after grabbing a Costa coffee (bad idea) there was no where to pull up.. eventually he pulled into the road side middle of no where and I peed in the bushes
Today same length of time in the car not one pee needed.
The difference? My period started last night.
So ALL VA symptoms ramp up before my period you may notice this too

My oestrogen was < 18 started oestrogel beginning of Nov, worked up to four pumps
Been on vagifem estriol cream approx 2 months.

I think for me I need both HRT and local oestrogen. It's going to take months to get me oestrogen levels back to normal and I've come to accept I can't expect good results until that happens.

Some women respond well to local oestrogen some need both.

Perhaps get your bloods tested as my symptoms came from no where over night and I have a new found respect for the power of oestrogen x

HRT alone won't help i'm sorry  to say. You probably need local hormone especially as your bladder seems to need it. Once you start feeling the effects of atrophy you can guarantee it's been a long time coming. Your v needs oestrogen.

Amen,

I had minor signs of VA which didn't bother me I just thought they were part of getting old. Increased urination, little air bubbles escaping from the vagina ( I knew that was the walls thinning) but one day all Hell broke lose with horrible symptoms I'm still with today two months on. Praying HRT and local oestrogen will help in time.
Don't just use lubrication for comfort your bladder vagina urethra are ALL oestrogen dependent. So longer they starve of oestrogen the worse it gets,

Hi English Rose, thanks for sharing your experience, I'm sorry you're having a tough time but glad that estrogen seems to be helping you...

I had a blood test done and the result was an estrogen level of 37 - the doctor concluded that I had virtually no estrogen circulating in my blood stream which explained why I was feeling so rubbish. I'm still suffering with the sore skin around my inner thighs and knicker line and at times it's agony - I'm hoping when I go up into the higher dose of estradot I might see some improvements.....

Hope you have a lovely Christmas x

The escaping air bubbles I have too!

Birdy the burning sensation you mention I have experienced that twice since Oct 2018 feels like sunburn or acid burn but when I looked nothing. It was to the real skin area outside of the vagina and up my bottom too. But of all of the VA symptoms I have and I have MANY its the one that appeared the least so I would be inclined to think you have VA not the other

We have to research our own symptoms and compare them to other ladies bc the gyni's and doctors on the NHS are not familiar with VA and how varying the symptoms can be. Currently IC is a "trendy" diagnosis and one gyni was trying to convince me I had that. I don't,  I have VA but it took Maryjane to respond to my post and explain she was also told she had IC based on almost identical symptoms I had during the pelvic exam and hers is much better since oestrogen and laser treatment.

If we believe everything the doctors tell us, well.. where would we be without online forums to allow us access to other womens symptoms treatments etc?

I never put my faith 100 percent in the hands of any other person medically qualified or not.

I think you have VA not some nerve damage (Unless there is something I am not aware of not mentioned here in this post?)
