Evorel 100 plus Utrogestan
« on: November 14, 2018, 09:10:09 PM »

Hi Everyone

I attended hormone specialist (privately) as my GP said, “there's not a lot of options left “...
My hormone specialist put me on Evorel Conti + Evorel 25 which has resulted in 6 months of almost daily bleeding. I received a scan which showed everything ok apart from a polyp.
I became extremely fatigued and blood test showed iron deficiency amenia - now on iron tablets.
She has now suggested Evorel 100 + Utrogestan days 1 - 25 as my night sweats returned a month ago.
Is anyone else on this combination and if so feedback please...
Anxiety also a problem but I'm thinking it's possibly due to needing to go up from 75 to 100 Evorel patch.
This is my last attempt as everything seems ok for 6 - 12 months and then symptoms return..

Hi there Mainecoon1

I am on 62.5 mcg Estradot patches and 200 mg x 12 days Utrogestan every 6-8 weeks so I maintain a cycle ( with a withdrawal bleed) despite being post-menopausal for around 10 years probably. Some women find that being on a cycle and having a predictable bleed suits them better than not knowing when you're going to bleed ( as well as the advantage of not having to take progesterone for most of the time).

As the amount of progesterone needed to protect the uterus from oestrogen stimulation is dose dependent - for both the oestrogen and the progesterone - it is important to have the right balance for you (ie your womb!). Therefore if you are taking utrogestan 100 mg orally this might not be enough to protect your womb from 100 mcg oestrogen patch.

I would try it and see - and if necessary either take it vaginally at that dose or if you still feel fatigued ( despite the iron) on continuous progesterone, or have breakthrough bleeding - then think about a cycle with a higher dose of progesterone for part of the month ( licensed dose is 200 mg x 12 days). On that regime you should get a bleed in or close to the 3 days break.
