Static or 'air conditioned'?   DH was making a cake earlier and it took 20 mins .longer to cook than suggested.  I think it's because he has an oven that has air whirring around.  Which would you choose?

Mine is a fan oven.
Nearly everything takes longer in it to cook than suggested.

I really miss my double oven.

I've got a double oven, but seldom use the fan oven for the same reason. It cooks more evenly, but always takes slightly longer than it's meant to. The regular oven part, i have to keep an eye on though, else cakes turned to get slightly tanned (burnt) on one side.

'fan oven', that's they  ;D

I can't see how causing a draught is good for cakes anyway  ::)

I love burnt bits of cake  ;)

Same as Barnacle, the fan oven is quicker but doesn't cook evenly and the other one which isn't a fan one takes forever to cook things and to pre heat

I had this and it was because the oven wasn't quite level. Only took a small adjustment and no more uneven browning.

I have a Maytag oven that has the convection feature but I keep forgetting I have it when I bake (insert face palm).  Next time I get the urge to bake I will see if it makes any difference.

I'll have to have a bit of a fiddle then, thanks Taz.

I have a range cooker, one fan oven & one conventional. I use the fan one all the time. The element and fan went in January and whilst waiting for the part, I had to use the conventional one, I hated it, took ages for anything that wasn't on the top shelf. Took longer one night, I switched the grill on instead of the oven it was only when I went to check on it and opened the door and it was still cold!  ;D
