Dexa scan - unusual high T-scores
« on: November 13, 2018, 11:51:47 AM »

I had my Dexa scan and got my results - I haven't had the official report yet

Spine T=3 Z=3.3
Hips T=1.4/1.7 Z=1.9/2.2

My brother, who is a scientist and had multiple bone issues (oesto carcinoma, oestoarthritis, RA) has suggested that the spine result of 3 is a bit worrying - he is off doing research and will report back....

Meanwhile is anyone on here a Dexa 'expert' or at the very least have more knowledge than me - I'm a statistician not a medical so 3 deviations from norm is quite significant mathematically but it might not be medically

Help?

I saw the GP & she agreed with the oestoporisis nurse I spoke too - the very high spine result could be due to oestoarthritis which I have had a while - so checking whether I need HRT for my bones could be tricky

I'm off for an xray tomorrow

I think the Z is the T adjusted for age - but it's right at the edge of my stats knowledge

How knows!

My other symptoms are (so far) in control

Well Yes, StellaJane - but mine is so far away from oestoporosis as it possibly can be

If my stats memory is right (and it's been a long time) +3 is 3 standard deviations out side average which relates to less than 0.1% of the population (not sure if it's for my age or the whole population) - slightly outside my daily stats usage!! so I could be wrong

But Xray results are apparently 'normal' so I'm waiting for the report form the private hospital & go and see the GP again

So keep up with a good diet.  Have a sensible exercise regime of good quality weight bearing exercises [note to Self  ::)], keep hydrated and get as much  :sunny:  as you can  ;)

Let us know what the GP suggests?
