Does sciatica always go down the leg? I've read it goes down the back of the leg but can't find any mention of it going down the front  :-\

I have it in the bum, at that area where the sciatic root emerges.   Press it and I jump  :o.

Sometimes it misses my thight/back of the leg and emerges in the foot.  Other times it's in the front of my leg.  Last week it was over my 'hip', actually it's back pain as hip pain is felt in the groin.   Clear as mud  ::).

I can feel it pulling right now.  In the area where the nerve emerges.

from Spinae-Health.com

Where does the sciatic nerve begin and end?

"Sciatic Nerve. The sciatic nerve is the largest and longest spinal nerve in the human body. Extending from the lumbar and sacral plexuses in the lower back, the sciatic nerve runs through the buttocks and into the thighs. It delivers nerve signals to and from the muscles and skin of the thighs, lower legs and feet.
"

I have it down the back of my thigh and calf sometimes.  "referred" pain.

The web-site has good diagrams and explanations.

sciatica doesn't go down the front of the leg but down the back usually like CLKD says in the bum or down the back of the thigh.  It can do down the calf right into the heel and the arch of the foot.  When I have had it usually skips my calf.  If you have really very badly damaged the nerve it can mean you cannot put your foot to the floor.

The pain you can get in the front of the leg down the bone is not from the nerve itself, it is because you are walking badly because of the problem behind the leg and down into the foot, you use the other muscles down the front of the leg differently when you are not distributing your weight normally due to the pain at the back

When my calf is sore it's on the outer side like I've been kicked.

How is it today Taz?
