Tibolone Help
« on: November 06, 2018, 11:01:47 AM »

Well I've been to the Dr's this morning asking for Testosterone, but she started talking about Tibolone, but as she is a GP registrar, needs to check with one of the other doctors. I know nothing about this drug but had a quick look & thought it's not used for surgical menopause, can anyone help? Thanks.

You're right Yorkshire Girl, it isn't. I had a hysterectomy and oophorectomy years ago and my GP prescribed this when I went back on oestrogen aged 67. He wasn't going to let me have anything because of my age but then  prescribed Tibolone. The meno clinic said it wasn't suitable. I got Oestrogel and Testogel from them.

I've spent ages this afternoon trying to find all I can about taking Tibolone after total hysterectomy and oophorectomy and whether it will help with sleeping, energy, libido etc but can't find anything and now I've got myself into a state worrying. Luckily the doctor has not phoned back which may be a saving grace seeing as I don't know what questions to ask. I don't want to be forced into taking it without any info!!

I thought you could have Tibolone after hysterectomy and oopherectomy?

I thought the only sort of criteria is that it's for post meno women

Annie, I've found after doing some more research that yes you can have it after hysterectomy and oophorectomy, but struggling to find out whether it will help with symptoms!

The whole point about Tibolone is that it is prescribed to help with libido and also energy but from what I've read some women experience side effects, possibly from the progestogenic part. There were a couple of long running threads on it - was it Soooze who was taking it?

I'll try to find one of them.

Thanks Hurdity, it's the side effects that are worrying me. I would still prefer to have testosterone prescribed & I'm not sure if I'm offered Tibolone whether to try it or not. After reading the whole thread it does seem to suit some but not others. Still waiting for doctor to ring! X

In your position ie without uterus I would defo push for the testosterone if you can get it, but as second best then the Tib might be worth a try.

I agree Hurdity, especially after the research I've done. Anyway yesterday afternoon doctor phoned and they have agreed to give me Tibolone, which I will start at the weekend. I am apprehensive about taking it & the side effects but everyone is different, so fingers crossed! X
