Problems with progesterone
« on: August 14, 2018, 01:01:33 PM »

Good afternoon, I am rather at my wits end and hope you can help especially as my gynocologist is on holiday.  I am 47 and having been struggling with perimenopause for at least 4 years and been on HRT for 2 and a bit, I have very low estrogen levels so am on a high dose of Estradot.

I am struggling to find a progesterone and/or routine which doesn't give me strong side effects: I have tried Utrogestan which I tolerated for a number of months but started giving me pelvis pain and headaches, The Mirena which I have in at the moment but this has brought on awful panic attacks which last for days and cause vomiting and diarrhea and splitting headaches - this is being removed this afternoon.

I am unable to take tablets because I get visual migraines.  Apparently I am enigima because I took the combined pill for years with no problem. I know I am not the only one to have this problem, so advice please

I suffer with menstraul migraine and visual migraine and I'm on provera tablets . Have tried loads of progesterones including utrogestan  and this one is working for me .. in fact i feel really well on it .( Couldnt tolerate the others, including patches.)
To be honest, recently i realised that i hadnt had a migraine for a while ... so maybe its one to consider . X

Provera is the trade name for the drug medroxyprogesterone 5mg.  I cant really comment on whether it is any good - I don't think it has caused my problems per se just I have problems with the dose of progesterone I am prescribed.  I have discovered I don't tolerate it very well and not at all on a continuous regime.

I have had left sided headaches in the past also but not on Provera Nellie Noo

Good morning SJGMart

I also use Provera on a long cycle and for me personally it's by far the best progesterone
Perhaps you could give it a try. Do let us know what you decide and how you get on.

Good luck and hope you find something soon to help.

Love Lanzalover x
