Breast cancer and endometrial cancer, vaginal atrophy
« on: June 23, 2018, 11:25:59 PM »

Hi thank you for accepting my request to join the forum.
I'm 56 had breast cancer and mastectomy, chemotherapy and more recently endometrial cancer.  Since having my cervix, womb and ovaries removed I have suffered extreme burning in my vagina, vaginal atrophy and I have been prescribed replens which helped but I felt quite sore and wondered if anyone had any other suggestions as I'm unable to use anything with eostrogen in due to my breast cancer.  I'm getting quite desperate as it is interfering with my every day life and I don't want to pack the job I love in.   :(

Hi Andrea,

A lot of us use the Yes products. Here is some info from the healthcare professionals who recommend it in your situation.

I hope that gives you some useful information!  :)

Thank you Jenna it's so reassuring knowing there's other women out there in the same predicament I bought some canestan moisturiser which has helped a little bit but shall definitely try the yes product.  My breast cancer was 18 years ago and the endometrial cancer a year ago which was a grade 1A so we know it's the atrophy.  Thank you for your prompt reply.  :)

You're very welcome Andrea!  :) If you contact the Yes company they will send you some free samples.

I use the water-based one myself and I couldn't be without it!

However: HRT delivered via the vagina should not affect the body over all.   The reason the vagina becomes dry with thinning skin is due to the drop in oestrogen - only HRT will replace that.  Other products do help so have a read round, put YES into the search box here and see what pops up?  I have used KY Jelly on the outer lips since the 1970s and found that Canestan made the whole area burn  :o

Take a list of queries to your next visit?

Andrea.leah - are you on an aromatase inhibitor too? A very good place to get info. regarding this sort of thing for those who absolutely cannot touch estrogen are the breast cancer forums. xxxx

So sorry to hear about your cancers Andrea.leah and resultant menopausal symptoms especially vaginal problems.

There are products being developed for women in your position  - in fact there is one licensed in US - a DHEA capsule called Prasterone from memory brand name Intrarosa or something.  Not sure if a specialist gynae can import it? Also there have been reviews of testosterone based therapies but I think more research is needed here.

(CLKD - some oestrogen from locally delivered oestrogen (via vagina) does get absorbed systemically and I understand that some women who are taking Tamoxifen are not allowed to have any oestrogen at all in the system - although this may be at the discretion of the oncologist?)

My Oncologist muttered 'no HRT for you'.  Tamoxifen almost killed me anyway so quality of Life is more important 2 me than worrying about 'what ifs'.    Of course any medications need to be passed by NICE B4 use in the UK.

Hi ladies thank you all for your advice I have been using 100% coconut oil internally and externally down below twice a week and yes every day and my symptoms have disappeared.  The coconut oil alone isn't as good as using both together and I'm finely getting my life back without using anything that could arm my body.  Please if you're in my situation just try it  :)
